We aren't really lacking in Gotze's position though which is why I'm not that bothered. Of course he'll improve us but CM/DM and the defence are currently more important.

Exactly my thought's. Gotze isn't really an improvement anyway tbh. We have Coutinho, Firmino, Mane, Lallana et al. that can all play his position.

I'd much rather get Hector. I really like this player, very impressed.

With regards to Gotze. I'd rather get Coric and let him learn his trade with us.

Gotze isn't anything special in all honesty, he's good - no doubt. Not as good as the hype though. The world cup final goal has fed him since.

Good to see tied klopp down for long term, gives him confidence that owners will give him time to build something as well.

£17m is just too much for that type of player.

It's not when we've been leaking goals from the right so much due to our LB being by the oppositions corner flag.

£17 mil for any top player is cheap this window. Position doesn't matter imo. We seriously need a LB so we need to go all out and get him.

25mil if needed, just buy him ffs!

Jurgen Klopp signs six-year Liverpool deal as Anfield revolution continues

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has today signed a six-year deal keeping him at Anfield until 2022.
Just days after entering negotiations to stay on Merseyside for the long-term, Klopp and his assistants have penned the contract. It represents a four year extension to his previous terms.
More significantly, it signifies an extraordinary commitment from both sides to the ongoing rebuilding of Liverpool Football Club.

Liverpool have started their pre-season training

It is a record contract for a Liverpool manager – worth upwards of £42 million over the next six years. None of Klopp’s predecessors had the luxury of a deal of such length before. Few managers in world football have the security of such an agreement, particularly at the highest level of the game. It is a most emphatic demonstration of the club’s unshakeable belief in the coach they recruited last October and determination to stand by him whatever is in store over the forthcoming seasons.
For Klopp’s part he has now decided to stay with Liverpool for the same number of seasons he was at Borussia Dortmund and Mainz, his previous clubs.
He stayed seven years as manager of those sides.
Liverpool have taken the decision first and foremost because they do not believe there is a manager who is more in tune with how the club should be run – or has more empathy for the ethos of Liverpool as a club and city.
As well as Klopp, his assistants Zeljko Buvac and Peter Krawietz have also signed contract extensions covering the same period. That would have been essential to the manager as he sees himself as head of a coaching team rather than a soloist.
Liverpool’s owners have been craving stability since they bought the club in 2010 and are adamant Klopp is the man to deliver it.
They were aware attractive jobs would become available over the course of the next few years – the German national team could have a vacancy soon, for example – so wanted to act sooner rather than later to keep Klopp’s services. They insist the contract extension is about duration rather than a significant pay increase – Klopp already earning around £7 million a year.

It was off the Sky transfer site and I didn't read it fully, I have since edited it (within mins of posting) and pass on my sincere apologies to all.

I'm hoping MITO was joking because he know's you're a decent guy and didn't mean any harm. It was a gossip story, if that offended him he needs to make a Dr's appointment.

I hate the S** as much as the next man, but **** me let's not go over the top here!!

It also suggests his agent informed the club that there was interest in Klopp and they needed to make a statement to convince him not to move on. Must be almost unprecedented for a manager to sign a contract extension less than a year after their initial contract was agreed. Especially a manager who is yet to achieve anything.

I think the club might be sold, this being a massive selling point. Along with stadium development, the yankies might cash in.

That's the cynic in me anyway!!

I'm a big fan of hector but if you spend a bit more, we could perhaps entice someone like Ricardo Rodriguez who is better.

Hector is a steady Eddie - I'm hoping we have a deal in place before the euros

Steady Eddie is what we need at LB. I'd prefer Hector to RR personally, but I know a lot on here like RR. I think it's due to his hair and tattoos personally <laugh>

Steady Eddie is good. Hector has looked good going forward too during the Euro's - his all round game looks very good.

Jürgen Klopp signs extended long-term LFC deal

Liverpool Football Club today announced Jürgen Klopp has committed his long-term future to the Reds by signing an extended contract.

Klopp’s senior staff Zeljko Buvac and Peter Krawietz have also lengthened their deals to continue a coaching relationship spanning two decades.

The move, which was initiated by the club’s ownership, is in recognition of the commitment shown by the German and his staff to developing, improving and ultimately leading a football structure that will bring sustained success.

Since arriving at Anfield in October last year, Klopp has focused on player and team development, allied with introducing best practice to all facets of the first-team environment. Liverpool’s owners believe that securing the services of a ‘world-class managerial talent’ for a long-term period is critical to achieving the overall ambitions for the organisation.

Principal owner John Henry, chairman Tom Werner and FSG president Mike Gordon today jointly said: “When you have an individual of Jürgen’s quality in the building it makes perfect sense to secure that person for the long term. To not do so would be irresponsible.

“The overriding motivation behind this decision is Jürgen’s commitment to overall improvement and development. In Jürgen we have someone who is always looking ahead, always looking beyond his own wants and needs and putting the club first.

“The ideas and plans he has for the football infrastructure excite us and we believe it benefits the organisation to have Jürgen committed to Liverpool for a sustained period, to make sure he is here to oversee this development. By making this commitment to him, we are taking away any future distractions or doubt. We will move forward in partnership together, with confidence in each other and with the club’s future at the forefront of every decision.

“He is a world-class managerial talent and his leadership will be critical to everything we hope to achieve in the years ahead.”

Klopp said: “It’s hard to express in words how honoured myself, Zeljko and Peter feel by the commitment shown in us by the ownership and the club in general.

“We are very much at the beginning of our journey, but to already have the connection we have with this very special place is incredible.

“I am the first to recognise that with this great commitment comes a great responsibility. All of our coaching careers we have looked to make teams and clubs better, with the ultimate goal of making the supporters proud and happy.

“To do this we have to make sure we always put player and team development at the heart of every major decision. It is my job to lead that and ensure every element of the LFC football environment reflects the best practices in the game. It is fantastic that the club’s ownership is just as committed to this as we are.

“There is much to do and much to achieve and we look to do this by being the most completely together group anywhere in the world. That’s everyone and we all have responsibility for it - all of us who are part of this LFC family: players, staff, ownership and of course the supporters.

“By being together at all times, we will be stronger, better and our successes sweeter.”

Hector is a really solid defender and I do hope we get him this summer.

I suppose I need to get my head around the current market prices.

Would you rather have Ibe or Hector? Botth probably cost similar amounts... Think of it that way.

I was merely pointing out it may cause offense.

Like... I know this isn't rawk where fellow reds fans could be banned for an honest error and they are not allowed post any transfer rumours not in the echo

Nice sign off line on Klopp's quotes to club site: "By being together at all times, we will be stronger, better and our successes sweeter.”

I know it's an emotional topic.
But if a mistake by a regular decent poster quoting 1 football related story from the S** causes someone to be offended, I'd seriously question their emotional well being. I say that due to the Inquest findings that the 96 were not at fault. Some people need to move on, the families got their justice and the dead will never be forgotten, but jeez come on, it's a transfer story, nothing more, nothing less <ok>
