Rumours of Gerrard returning to the club during the MLS offseason.
^ This ^ Maybe lay the foundations for a backroom role? Defo not a playing returnTo Train/Keep fit.. no issues..
To play.. no thanks!
So could it have been more of a 'committee recommendation vs Rodgers wants'.See article on sky sports about how Klopp has final say on all transfers and it's been that way for years. Was the same under Rodgers as well.
The he word committee was used and has been clung onto by media but in truth it's just scouts and a few data analysts who go away and do the usual thing and provide a list of players to the manager.
Guess that debunks the theory of committee buy vs Rodgers buy.

Rodgers had who he wanted in mind, got the committee to take a look (scout), assessed potential value etc and then gave the data and recommendation (ie price, value for money etc) to BR. In the case of Lovren and Lallana this would mean that BR could push those transfers through even if the committee was unsure of them.
At the same time the committee still had free range to go look at players and come back to Rodgers and say 'this player looks good, good price and fits what we're missing'.
So leaves the idea Rodgers was getting players he was unsure about cause he was deferring to the committee over areas of football he didn't know a lot about (European)
It doesn't. There was a clear conflict between the two and it's why we failed as a club.

I guess that's where trust and a good relationship between manager and chief scout comes in.
the fact he has final say over who comes in suggests should put to bed notion of not playing players because they were committee signings because he could have just said no to them.
Ok let's ignore the actual quotes from Ayre and just make up theories on nothing instead![]()
Why not have him back playing? Under Klopp he won't be used as a first team regular like Rodgers did and I think Gerrard knows if he came back he'd be used as an impact sub in a few games more than anything.
He he can make an impact in games, potentially when we need to control the game or searching a goal in last 10/20 mins.
Ubder rodgers is say no because I don't think he'd be used properly but I think Klopp would use him sparingly and in the right times.
He couldn't say no to them - else he wouldn't have got anyone else in. Certain players were imposed on him.
He could and should have said no if he didn't want the player in question. If it was that bad then he should have walked and kept his integrity!
Gerrard doesn't want to be a bit part player though.
