jimmy was delighted we got firmino....

I agree on benteke. he's solid enough but 30mil is huge still and i would wonder about his work rate. on his day he is unplayable and he gets it on target much more than lukaku for example. I think if the work rate is right he can succeed... I would rather a young fernando torres though :bandit: any of those out there.

the other issue is as far as i can tell 30mil is the absolute top end of his vale range EVER. so i cannot see a 50mil bod hitting us form anywhere in 2 years time. I'd rather we get a 24 year old who'd 20mil going up to 40mil if he succeeds than a 32.5mil player who might end up being a 20 mil player just cos villa played hard ball with us.

The thing is..... villa are not exactly blessed with a squad so are they going to get sold on and are they going to have a squad next year for sherwood... I think sherwood is happy to pin his colours to benteke for another year.

all in all its a difficult transfer.... and i am wondering about origi. his attitude on loan in france stunk up the place. he is a similar sort again. a young man we back to grow in value. with him and ings we are going to now have to wonder who is going on laon and who compliments who. Origi and benteke? well i can't see us lose on origi if we can push him on.

When was the last time you actually made a postive comment? I'm wondering if your just habitually putting a downer on every thing...

Benteke is a solid player. My only question is whether he fits our system. But if he can fit Belgiums maybe he can fit ours. If he comes lets give him a chance.

He's just saying it how it is. Liverpool have been consistently signing mid table players and have inevitably found themselves midtable. The unfounded over the top praise of new Liverpool signings from the fans is widely ridiculed for a reason.

jealousy.. yes you are right there <laugh>

Care to share some of those comments?

I find rival fans more complimentary to our signings than our lot <laugh>

Couldn't be bothered trawling through posts but I remember one or two claiming the signing of Firminho was A Suarezesque signing. Nathaniel Clyne has also been lauded as the best right back in England on this board since signing ( Total nonsense and I rate Clyne )

Clyne isn't even the best RB in Liverpool.......

Also I think Tobes signature clearly shows how the Signing of Balotelli was to say the least overhyped.

Edit: I meant his old one about Liverpool's attack being the second most potent behing City's.

Must be watching a different player - his ball control is not great, it's actually quite poor and he's not intelligent. Agree - his ability to play as a target man is good but that's down to playing long balls or crossing - 2 things which we don't do.

But it's something we'll have to agree to disagree on. <ok>

Re. your last point - give me Ronaldinho at his pomp for just one season than 9 seasons of Benteke. We almost won the league thanks to Suarez and he was only here for a few years.

Give me a talented player who has his eye on a bigger club after 3-4 years than someone like Ings or Lallana who will stay until they retire.

Maybe we don't cross because we only have sterling in the box.

Said it 100 times but we became predictable because we have no presence up top so teams push us wise knowing we can't cross to sterling.

Of of we have benteke, then of teams do push us wide then we can cross to him, so teams might be as open to just pushing us wide and they may create more room in the centre of the pitch to work through balls via Coutinho and Firmino etc

Yes but that was from the same person he is quoting in the current one <whistle>

The Firmino and even the Clyne signings were positive and a sign of intent - why? Because they strengthen the first team and at a decent price. These two signings are signings we should be making each and every year.

I don't mean to be so down but it's as if we're accepting a low level - we need to raise standards. We were blessed with players like Alonso, Hyypia, Mascherano, Torres, Suarez, Reina etc etc and we replaced them with the likes of Lucas, Skrtel, Henderson, Mario, Lallana etc etc.

But at the end of the day, I'm not going to positive about someone or something to please others. If a player is sh*t, I have no problems with saying it. I don't see how sweeping it up under the carpet helps. <ok>

Going back to Belgium - Benteke doesn't suit their style. Wilmots has publicly criticised a couple of times now for being too static. Origi is roughly 3-4 years younger and already has almost half the caps Benteke has. Origi, Lukaku and another chap called Michy are the most talented Belgian strikers IMO.

Firmino is a big signing for LFC. Clyne is the best English right back but not the best right back in the league. Still very good and still massively better than Johnson.

Yet the main issue still remains for Liverpool, they are financing a rival in Southampton to a new level by buying their deadwood for crazy prices. If anything was made obvious last season it was that the players taken off Saints hands by Liverpool for extortionate prices have in a sense ' removed the shackles ' for Saints to barge their way into EL footy with some astute purchases. Suffice to say this deadwood from Saints has dragged Liverpool to mid table mediocrity. Whether the same will apply to Nathaniel Clyne only time will tell, but I'm inclined to say yes.
