Well yes of course. I wouldn't begrudge any player in their final years, not quite good enough for the team a send off and a thankyou.

Edit: but reading again, I think you've missed the point

Don’t think anyone would begrudge Robbo chance to move if that’s what he wants rather than being squad player.

Doesn’t mean we let him leave for free? If we did that to every player we’d be in United situation where you make no money from sales for 10 years and end up in the ****ter.

Yeah,.in the end if we got one more year and he left on a free with hopefully another medal or more in his pocket plus 20 games or so played in some regard then nobody at all would begrudge him anything.

But he is sat there on 150k a week so if he hasn't the fight in him to battle a player hlwe have not yet signed then he can go for a modest fee.

If he wants a free then that little matter of his contract is a terrible shame for him and his signing on fee we wants to grab.

No doubt it’s his agent pushing it. Did exactly the same with henderson wanting a free transfer for his move to Saudi. He has 3 decent players on his roster, TAA, Robertson and Bowen. only has 1 more real chance to get a huge signing on fee for his client

I cant imagine passing up the couple of million we make on him would break us, do you?

Say we signed kerkez, no one wants to pay the sums we want for simi or robertson.

We've got 3 LBs sat with one slot available.

We will pay 8 mil in wages for robertson to sit on his arse taking up a squad space.

Now to be frank, I'm not massively arsed either way.

But I am amused by the vitriol aimed at trent for an astonishing bit of business on his part, but apparently he should have shown some respect and gratitude to liverpool.

But the idea of the club showing a bit of gratitude to a player is laughed at because it's not good business

Throw £10m my way if that’s not an awful lot of money <ok>

Robertson played 30 plus games last year in a title winning team. Not sure he sat on his arse taking up a squad space.

Should we also let Konate go to Madrid this summer for free?

I don’t remember any time where a club has let a first team player leave a year before contract is ending on a free. Would be an absolutely crazy thing to do.

Also I don’t understand the comparison to TAA? Fans were pissed because he was a local lad who left for free to Madrid (well £10m cos Madrid wanted him for couple friendly matches) when he had talked about his dream at lfc etc.

Not sure any fan is pissed that Robbo may want to move. That’s fair enough. If he does, then a club can make a bid that matches the value in same way that 99.9% of contracts happen. If the club didn’t show any gratitude they could reject all bids and make him see out the final year of the contract. I imagine however because of what he’s done they’ll say if the club matches a reduced value of 5-10m then they’ll accept it.

Let’s be honest, you aren’t getting an international captain at 31 who has just been first team starter for league champions for £10m anywhere else and he should probably be 20-25m

Sorry but no.

Just posted above, he has a value and it's important to running the club. In this day of PSR and FFP, letting players go for nothing does not fly.

Football is a business and if we want to keep progressing knowing football is a business is massively important. This type of thinking prevented us from winning a league title for 30years, you only have to look at how ManU latched onto this notion of professional business running of a football club in the early 90s, while we floundered around trying to modernise to prove that sentiment and old school thinking isn't how things work anymore.

Robbo can move if he doesn't want to compete for the spot, but the club he's moving too can pony up.
I agree with this. You have to ask yourself do you support the club or individual players? Granted the players are part of the club and I will support them all while they are here and wish them well when they move on but I can't see how manoeuvring for a move that shafts the club out of a fee, is the right thing to do.

Lots of players leave on a free, I have no problem with that but there's something about the way the same agent who tried to get Henderson and Trent free transfers ( Trent's brother btw) is now maybe trying the same on with Robertson. I have no hard feelings towards Robbo and if it were a normal free transfer then it's a fond farewell, he's been immense, but these transfers trying to do the club out of money, aren't on.

it sounds like the agency is a bit of a one trick pony tbh. Who’d sign with those clowns? Not many I’d wager.

I've said this as well. The agent is and should be doing the best for his clients, that's his job, as parasitic as agents are. When you know the agent is Trent's brother and supposedly a Liverpool fan, it doesn't sit well knowing that he's not even trying for a win/win situation for players and club.

I was just wondering what their argument for a free could be?
