No idea bar this financial year must be worrying them somehow.

why would a sane and rational club who could afford a suitable package for a player or 3 not offer a deal before jan 1st to any of them?

As of now any one of them can walk into an office tomorrow and say I'm off this summer to x, it's all done.

There's no sane reason to believe a deal could not have been done at some level if a deal is affordable so either the club don't want any of them at all or they think they can't afford to pay any of them any more in this financial year.

Personally I'd take the 5 point deduction and whatever uefa want to do rather than lose 3 player but hey I've no idea what uefs have up their sleeve for their 70% of revenue ffp.

If someone can come up with a reason why a sane and rational football club would risk losing 3 first team players if they can afford it then it'd be good to hear it.

I can only conclude they either don't want them or can't afford them.

Gave you reason few days ago. 12 months ago klopp signalled intent to leave and players wouldn’t sign while new manager coming in. Slot then needs to get sorted so prob giving time to settle to see if wanted to keep them. After 3/4 months prob decided yeah everything good let’s get talking which takes us to now. Makes sense

Not just a new manager but back room staff too. Plus the DoF, etc changes

So August to what November is taken for

A) slot to wake up to the fact that these players are elite and cannot be replaced easily?

B) for the players to decide something?


If a) is true then how long is reasonable for a club to draw up an offer?

If b) is true why would the club not already have an offer ready?

It's January 4th now.

Salah has repeated what he said last September that this is last year at the club. He has said zero progress.

It has been clear from his media dalliances thst he wants an offer.

The fact the club have not fallen over themselves to produce one before he could walk away speaks volumes to me and runs counter to b)

As I said i can only conclude that the club either can't afford him.or do not want him

I totally agree with the above. It’s very likely Slot was asked, radical I know, and maybe said “hold fire” on any new contracts until such times as I’ve had a look.
Let’s be honest, the fans on here who are now complaining that Salah hasn’t been offered a new contract, were the same fans who wanted “to rip the Saudis arms off” at the end of last season and let Salah go. I also remember VVD coming in for criticism towards the end of last season with yet the same fans claiming “his legs have gone”

The financial year is irrelevant.
The club have made offers that they judge to be the best the club can offer so you think they should just pay more than they think the club can afford as that is what leads to financial problems for an example just look down the M62

exactly….what is the point of a pay structure if you ignore it. We have clearly made offers, Salah says we are far apart…..so an offer has been made but if he and others are comparing our offer to what he might earn in Saudi, we will forever be unable to compete.

Honestly though, I don’t know the reality and nobody does and making assumptions as to what has happened and then judging the club and staff on your assumptions is pointless. We have to see how it plays out.

I have a feeling Klopp saw this coming and formed part of his reason for going. Pure speculation on my part but quite plausible.

Just because Salah saying zero progress doesn’t mean conversations haven’t been had with his agent. They will have been in constant dialogue getting ideas from each other. No point putting an offer on the table that falls well short of what Salah and agent will want as it will be dismissed out of hand and prob feel an insult and lead to more awkward negotiations.

Conversations are one thing.

Progress means zero offers and zero offers means they can't afford him or don't want him or are insane enough to think they can umrun on til July 1st.

They know what he wants; they don't want him or can't afford him.

It's the only two things I can see a sane and rational executive doing is saying no we can't pay a 33 year old that or we can't afford it at all.

Only a deluded fool would think carry on until it's too late and he's decided to go somewhere else to come up with something.

Either way you cut this hughes is batting a thousand here. Chiesa as a signing then these contracts on top.

In your opinion. In my option if someone is taking to me about contract renewals then that is progress.

If Salah is on 350k and club go and offer 100k then clearly it would be a pointless offer. You talk before any sort of formal offer is made

I'm going by what salah has stated. No progress.

I'd assume the club can afford to maintain his wages from the outside.

I'd assume the same on vvd.

I'd assume the club can only go so far with trent. I don't know where that line is.

However they either don't want to pay that same level or the players want more or they can't afford that same level.

We don't know but it's gone past a point now where a club that wants to retain players should have allowed it to get to.

I can only.conclude thst on the clubs side they don't want to retain them or cannot afford to.

No idea. There's just too much being made up.in the sources to say how long or how much with any certainty.

If it's 350k again for 2 years it's probably a no brainer for me. if it's 450k then it might explain things. Who knows.

There will be an inquisition (not an inquiry) when salah signs for another English club as I sincerely doubt he has any intent of going to Saudi. I could see him compromise and go to newcastle as they look to be in the cl running now big time.

Who knows though. I am only trying to draw conclusions about what a sane and rational club might be doing here.

They are either

A) actually insane
B) don't want him
C) can't afford him.

I conclude this around salah because if he wanted to go i really doubt he would be talking like he is. Espeically as if the club really felt he was setting them up for the blame they'd be quick to let it be known.

I am concluding from salah's direct comments that started really early in the season (sept 1) that he wants a contract. I don't know what you think of what he has said so far but that's my take.

Salah says they are far away from an agreement, so either the club feel he is asking too much or they are offering lower what he is on now.

His contract extension should not be that difficult to agree on.

I’d offer him a fixed 2 years with a third optional
£50k a week max over the £350k he is supposedly earning.

everything else should be semantics
