Hiddink poor? You may want to re-check that one. He was brilliant at Chelsea, won them the fa cup and should have got into the CL final but for some awful referring against Barca. Chelsea fans wants him to stay and was best manager since Mourinho.

From what I remember, Jol was really popular at spurs and did a great job there for a team that wasn’t anywhere close to top 4 in terms of ability.

Van Gaal Got united back into CL after awful season and also won fa cup

So yeah, they all did pretty well
Well there's a positive spin on things if ever I saw.

Only one I'd give any credit to was Hiddink, as he was only there for 6 months, so it's hard to judge what he could have done.

Jol was a mediocre manager with mediocre teams.
Van Gaal was hated, they couldn't wait to sack him.

Even the Dutch media acknowledge that no Dutch Manager has had great success in England. Your best example is Ten Haag, who has 2 cup wins, but still faces constant calls for sacking and his team is often criticized.

What’s a positive spin? Winnings trophies?

If Slot finishes with Hiddinks record next season of a CL semi final and an FA cup win I reckon 90% of fans would bite your hand off.

Also Klopp didn’t win anything while at Mainz. Did ok for Dortmund to hire him.

Jose won league in a Portugal and did ok after moving to England.

I think judging a manager before season even starts just based on fact he managed in a lesser league is very premature.

So we've moved down to one manager from a 6 month stint.

Would you accept the record of any of the others, random cups win and terrible football?

Klopp won promotion with a Mainz team that weren't fancied to win promotion

This isn't just about a 'lesser league'.

It's just about a post-Klopp era and I don't feel Slot is the man to carry it on. I said no manager was ever going to capture the imagination after Klopp, so Slot is sort on a hiding to nothing in those terms.
Look I'd be happy to be proved wrong, but the fan base is hardly excited by Slot's appointment.

He's not Roy, so he's already winning in those terms.

I don't think the lack of signings is helping either, one thing that can help a new manager is exciting signings, it buoys the mood and shows the manager wants to improve what the last manager had.
No signings worries that he's a weak manager who has signed on to work with what's he has. (so we'll wait and see on this)

Reading through, there doesn't seem to be a great deal of enthusiasm for the new coach.

Personally I thought klopp had run out of steam, it was time for a change.

Is there anybody who could have come in that people would be happy with?
I genuinely like Ancelotti but won’t happen

No idea.

It ought to be rb but Bradley will be wasted if we do it.

Reality is he's nowhere near good enough to play attacking midfield or wing
I agree but too good to leave out because of his ability to change the direction of attack with his passing range and vision.
Bit of thought needs to go into that.

I've said all along I'm fully behind him and let's wait and see before we judge. I really believe the lack of enthusiasm from some is just the disappointment of Klopp leaving because everyone loved him. Slot is hardly likely to match Klopp's charisma so it'll be down to results for him to win over a large section of the fans.
Jurgen was clearly burnt out, he's such an emotional person and it took it out of him.

I don't really know ow what is best unless we get a load of money off real.

Trent can't play with his back to the game and turn to effect the game. It's just not there.

Bradley is the better player in getting up and down the line already.

Trent is there to make passes and crosses and take frees but he has to be facing play to make that impact.

It's really hard to see what we do with trent next. If we give him 300k a week to keep him for 5 years then is he a midfielder all of a sudden?

As much as I think he's an absolutely fantastic individual player he's not necessarily always the best player for the team. I'm not calling him selfish, because he's 100% a team player, I'm just pointing out the obvious that- In order to use Trent you have to sacrifice something.

Some times you need his spark, his ability, other times, his lack of a defined position can hurt us. He's an interesting problem to have, despite how good he is, some games trying to fit him in hurts us more than it helps us. Klopp would always play him if he could, but I think there are definitely games where the better option would be to rest him. Takes an astute manager to pick when... better than me, I can only say in hindsight when he didn't work out. <laugh>

I hope Slot has the balls to not play Trent in games where it doesn't make sense, no matter how big a name he continues to be.

I think he'd be good in the Beckham role in a 442 but wouldn't like to see us play 442. I'm sure Slot will find him as position
