Yep, I was desperate for us to get Amrabat in the January window, and his agent was pushing him like mad. Think he was still 27 then too, but they were talking £40m then. Apparently the club (FSG?) wasn't interested at that age and the fact he was underwhelming in the Italian league (I dunno - I never watch it) , which is ironic as we ended up getting Endo at 30 <doh>, but that was because of the **** up with Lavia, which I still think we'll regret.

If you believe Twitter, after that debacle we asked again, but this time around United had already agreed terms with him, so fair enough - getting humiliated over Caicedo was bad enough - getting humiliated over Amrabat as well would have been a ****ing disaster. Still wish him luck though - he came over as an honest warrior in the WC, and with quite some passing range too. I assume United will continue with 4-2-3-1 with him alongside Casemiro. Makes sense. <ok>
There were no serious links with us and Amrabat. From what I've read, he had a great WC but that's it, nice lad but not what we're looking for. With regard to Lavia, the regret will be all on him. He wasn't even on the bench for their game v Wimbledon. If money means more to him than playing then he may be happy enough, I suppose.

I'm quite happy with this transfer window.

There is always more to do, but moving out ageing and injury prone players and replacing them with promising young players is a definite plus.

We've done more than I expected to be honest

umm think you will find it is more than that and potentially much more .

that's the up front money. no add ons included as those happen in following years.

both macallister and gravenberch have add ons to come.

the money is laid out there for all. 60, 35, 34, 18 then - 40-12-4.

I think we are now looking at a defensive issue but we might have a plan for January, who knows?

we are well loved with keepers, midfielders and attackers thst are all options to play. we are putting up with gomez at rb and rcb and the dodgy option of creaking matip.

imo this will catch up with us at some point but hopefully not before January.

Yeah, I hasten to add that what links there were was back in January, and they all came from his camp. And desperate as we were, we still said no. I do think we'd have qualified for the CL had we gone for him then though (or somebody else in that mould), but we'll never know now.

Good point.

Interesting statistical breakdown on him here from when lfc were linked.

Now have to assume the stats are correct. But if so he’s generally a decent passer of the ball but his tackling and defensive work isn’t anything special. Which is surprising as a DM you’d think he’d excel in ball winning as he’s built his whole reputation in this country on a decent WC performance mainly that tackle on Mbappe.

Poor chance created, good passer, mediocre ball winner.
conparison to fab, mediocre chance creater, average passer, good ball winner.
hendo - good chance creater, good passer, mediocre ball winner.
thiago - good chsnce creater, top passer & fantastic ball winner.

Indeed. As I say, I never watch Italian football so I have to take at face value he's completely underwhelming in the Serie A, and £40m after one good WC was OTT. Think United have got a good deal for him now though.

except Henderson was £10m the £12m includes add ons and please don't start with Aberdeen giving us £4m

Edit - even on your figures £147 -£56 =£91m <laugh>

Im all for selling him this summer, as long as the money is right, they want him as the crowning jewel of project sportswash.

Fine, pay up then.

They have the cash, cold hard cash in truckloads.

I want minimal or no add ons.

250m cash up front

50m in add ons.

Lets see if they really want him or not eh.

Id throw 400m cash or **** off as a starting point and go from there

You're not wrong if we sell him now. Coming back with £200m when our window is closed is an utter pisstake - if they have it now, why not 6 weeks ago when they allegedly started talking to his agent? So yeah, £250m cash, or try again next summer.

Difficult to say.

I still have a small flame of hope that Joe will rediscover some of his previous form.

If and as always it's a big if, the midfield can press higher, win the ball back and generally be a better unit than last year, then the defence won't be under as much pressure and hopefully won't creak as much.

The midfield looks alot better then last season. So fingers crossed it has a knock on effect

The best back four in the world would look ****e if the midfield in front of them where as bad as ours last season.

Joe is 100% mental. it's not his legs, it's in his head.

imo a long run of games.might sort him out but he has ro get that without stinking the place up.
