From their pov if Lavia picks up an injury it may mean he doesn't get sold and they keep their man. From our pov, would we go ahead on a deal with an injured player? ( I know we have done before but not sure we have under Klopp).
It is indeed club may "rest" him to keep his value or player himself might refuse to play to avoid injury. If he starts would guess we are no where near Southampton's valuation.

Saints under no pressure to sell so along as he’s in right frame of mind why would you not play one of your better players.
It's standard practice. If a player is looking at a transfer, his club usually benches him until his future becomes more clear. The manager has already said that the player's head is a bit all over the place, it's why he was pulled in the last preseason game.
not sure it is standard policy when points are up for grabs unless the "selling" club actually need the transfer to go ahead .

I think the Dewsbury Hall shouts came from the same Jacque Talbot (whoever he is) that said a month ago we'd agreed terms with Thuram. I'm expecting a surprise signing while all these other names being bandied around provide the smokescreen.
