He’s not a traitor. He’s given over 10 years to this club. He’s been given an opportunity to financially secure himself for life as well as finish out his career. I disagree with him going to saudi to do it but I’m not going to rag him for it. He’s made his choice, the club agreed to it, I wish him and his family well. He’s a premier league and champions league winning captain for this club. I’ll show him the respect for achieving that.
You don't think he's already set up for life? Genuine question.

His last contract extension saw him get an increase to 200k. Was such a stupid deal

I was expecting something 200 or above tbh. As obscene as it feels writing this: £140kpw seems pretty low for the captain of a major club... Although with his expected contributions for next season diminishing it's still a lot.

That's such a difficult question though. We don’t know how much he donates to charity. We don’t know how much he has in his bank account.

On our life styles yes. But is he going to retire and then live a 30k a year life style of one holiday a year and a takeaway once a month?

Does he want to set up a foundation and use some of this money to be able to help disadvantaged kids which he wouldn’t do on his current wage.

Does he want to be able to set up funds for his kids/family/nephews/nieces so they can go to uni and get on property ladder etc.

Personally don’t get the hate on the players moving to Saudi. Each individual choice, doesn’t affect me them moving over so good luck to them.

I’m sure throughout the last 20/30 years you could find clubs/owners who have dodgy pasts and so on with players moving.

These players are moving to play football. Anything else is behind them so why give them hate. They’re there to do a job, not to be a politician.

No hatred from me; never have and never will.

Him leaving for a new challenge doesn't bother me in the slightest, he's been with us a long time and owes us nothing so good luck to him.

However, the hypocrisy and greed I can never agree with. Still no hate, just disappointment.

Can't see him given a **** what I or anyone else thinks though tbh...<laugh>

There's this little thing called morals. In Henderson's case he put himself on a soapbox over gay rights, nobody asked him to. Now he's going to take money from the country with one of the worst human rights records in the world. The government owns or is involved in all the football there. What a way to whimper out of a career.

It's not irrelevant because we're only "saving his wages" if we don't sign anyone else. If that's the plan, fair enough... But

If we do sign someone to replace him we're still going to be paying wages (and most likely more than Hendo was making).

But Even if we replace Hendo with someone who will start more than Hendo would have... Someone's still going to be getting wages for sitting on the bench who wouldn't have so its not £140kpw saved.
We've already replaced him or who do you think AMA and Szoboszlai are replacing?

I don't hate Henderson for going to S.A. I don't like that he picked to go to that specific country with their horrific human rights abuses, and I think it's a poor judgement call from him...

... But I don't think that defines him as a human and there is far worse things he could be doing.

As for money. I don't mind footballers trying to get as much money as they can, as long as they're not back stabbing people or doing anything immoral, it's their right and I don't blame them.

Someone living in North Korea probably thinks, why would anyone earning £35k per year in the UK want to change jobs to get £45k per year, £35k is more than anyone could possibly spend.

It's a matter of perspective. I bet most people earning £200k per year would tell you they're not rich and they worry about their finances too.

There's the trope about how so many people who win the lottery end up broke within a few years... It's because we can only imagine what incomes similar to those we experience feel like. $100million seems set for life with unlimited spending power... Until you have it and spend it all. I'm sure to a footballer £200k and 700k pw feel very different in ways we mere mortals can't even imagine.

The deadwood that is Ox, Keita, and also Milner. Granted them coming means Henderson would be replacing Milner in the shadows of the bench.

Now, who is going to keep that bench warm?

This greed is different. He's pissing on his own morals to get his hands on it!

I do agree with that statement. As I said, I question his judgement on that call. It's not how much he's making I object to, it's going to SA.

But with that said, I don't think going there defines who he is as a person, but it is a black mark against him. I'm taking a middle of the road approach here.

I agree with others, Zobo & AMC are replacing Keita, Ox and Milner. We bought them before we knew anything about Hendo and/or Fabinho potentially leaving.

I fully expect another midfielder to arrive but then, I did before either of those two were rumoured to be leaving. We absolutely need a DM

Irony.
The criticism is that they're betraying their avowed principles.
Politicians don't have any.

Thing I find more frustrating with Hendo than the hypocrisy or greed is that he's gone away in the summer, got himself in fantastic shape (probably the best of his career) ready for a hard fight for his spot in the team, only to ****off and waste that hard work in a paper league <laugh>

I think the plan was always to bring in another midfielder but then the fab and Hendo interest came out of nowhere. And now we’re rethinking our plans

This season will be interesting, especially the first couple of months with an entirely new midfield.

I wanted us to go for Caicedo initially but accept he's too expensive. Part of me wants us to go for him again now just because he and AMC will have an understanding already <laugh>

Kimmich is an interesting link but not really what we need. Plus he's be massive wages.
