My point was he doesn't play as a false 9 either. hence the "even" comment.

these guys can finish, proper goal scorers. they don't need to be number 9 target men. they don't need to be "of a type"

we need a striker not a blooming dribbler who the lashes the ball at goal with his eyes closed.

Define proper goal scorer? Because Mane and Salah have been doing it for years, and Jota has started brilliantly.

We were briefly linked with Watkins a while back - would be expensive but possibly worth it? I'm not sure he's clinical enough, so would fit right in.

lol.

Ollie watkins has done well for villa. bit of a striker though. I'm sure thats not allowed any more.

I've mentioned before that Salah and Mane (not the Mane of this season) had a conversion rate which was comparable to the likes of Messi, Mbappe, C Ronaldo, Kane.

look salah scores a type of goal. shots form wider or running from in over the top. Once sides are set defensively he is out of the picture quite a bit.

Mane has done really well with headed goals in the box, really great but the lad misses the target a huge amount. this season he's been pigging awful.

Jota has done well so thats left side forward taken care of given the state of mane.

so whats your solution to bobby's disaster? if i offered you kane, mbappare or haaland you'd turn those down??

once again. no mention of bobby

No but we have also played Mane, Salah and Jota centrally. The essentially part is, it's only a starting position, all three front players are free to move about.

We tried to play with a natural number 9 before - Benteke and it didn't work out well ;)

I'm not hell bent if we sign a natural striker or a wide man. Of course, I'll be happy if we got someone like Haaland. But we definitely need an option and preferably one who ticks all the boxes I mentioned previously. Someone who can play centrally and out wide would be ideal.

so now you are equating rodgers last season with klopp

well done.

lol. stop twisting round you'll do yourself an injury mate.

None of those are an option regardless

I would actually buy another similar player to Mane and Salah. As Gez mentions, these players start wide but there is a lot of movement and rotation amongst them. Plus they can all play centrally if required.

But as I say, I would be happy Klopp decides he wants to go with a proper CF or buy another wide inside forward. Both have their pros and cons but at the end of the day, whilst their styles maybe different, I don't expect to see much difference in the volume of goals and chances they create.

If you gave me an option of Mbappe, Sancho or Haaland, I'd be more inclined to pick Mbappe or Sancho. Because they are better suited to our style of play, versatile and it allows us to be more flexible - i.e. Jota or Salah can play centrally but we still have pace on the wings. and Vice versa.

And I expect us to score the same amount of goals compared to if we had Haaland starting.

Plus, Salah wouldn't pass to Haaland

Give him a fair chance?

Actually played well in the Palace thrashing and then disappeared and ultimately shipped out. He's not great, but I assume he's proper w@nk in training
I haven't kept track, has he played much for Southampton? He was a bit of a mystery signing. I don't know whether it was ever on but at the time I thought why him and not Haaland.

What do you think Klopp will do with Minamino?

Minamino was not a klopp buy he was "bargain" that could be upsold.

He runs away from goal rather than towards it looking for ball to play so IMO mostly klopp just thinks he has better than him in the side.

we sent him to southampton with a requirement to play a certina amount of games and they played him at the expense of others.

People focus on palace where we scored every shot we had but what about 90mins v brighton where he did faff all?

he started "ok" at southampton with a couple goals in first few games but the reality is it went pretty much like with us thereafter. hes played 50% of their games and sat o ntheir bench otherwise.

We might wipe our feet with a sale but nothing more.

I think to be fair to him he'd barely arrived when the pandemic hit which means it's been a less than ideal settling in period. No English and isolated from the team for a large part of his time with us has also hindered his progress. Would I be right in presuming that Southampton don't want him on a permanent? If so he will be staying with us as I don't see any other offers coming in for him. I remember Gomez saying that he's great to have around the place because he's "always a happy guy". You can't underestimate a happy group atmosphere.

Jota is a left sided forward playing left forward mostly and salah is a wide forward playing wide.

Mane was always a winger, we played him narrow and swapped him over where he could cut in and his goals went up.

The reality is this stuff about strikers is a fallacy. you exploit the player you get. We want people to run onto things not run away from goal but you absolutely need to be able to finish. Its that simple.

City's long term success is based of aguero no matter how guardiola tried to get rid of him at the outset.
Barca have had suarez in and villa and messi, and e'tto and all these guys. top goal scorers
Real have had benzema for ages and ronaldo etc. top top finishers
Bayern, lewandowski
inter have transformed lukaku with diet and tactical awareness.

You can name teams off as we go theres a top top finisher at every one.

the fact is bobby got by cos his work rate fitted a system but that system is now blown and we need to evolve. We need the shots on target more.

there s reason clubs are falling over kane, haaland, and even mbappe.

Mbappe is a top top talent but very very different to a false 9.

If we are saying we can only play a false 9 so haaland, mbappe and kane would be terrible buys ok then :)

i don’t get what your trying to say? You think we should have a number 9 that bangs in 30 a season in addition to Salah and mane? Would be nice but team isn’t set up like that. Firmino worked well because he came deeper which drew the centre backs out and allows the diagonal runs infield from Salah and mane wh scored the goals.

If you have a mane staying up top not coming short you have no one pulled cb’s out of position, you block space for the wide players.

You’ve listed a load of clubs that had a cf scoring goals but that’s not how we’re set up. Unless klopp changes tactics totally, we aren’t gonna buy a number 9 that is on the last man as it’s no good for us. We need someone to come deep link play. And if they can chip in with 10 goals then perfect. That’s what firmino did and was great for us
