All good points and very valid. However, you are not European champions and on the crest of a wave often. Failure to add real quality to the squad at such a time is a missed opportunity imo. City have a great squad and great youngsters and ya e still bought quality. There are only two reasons why we shouldn’t strengthen: 1) the right players were not available and 2) we can’t afford the right players (I think we can)

I totally support bringing the kids through but it should be a blend of new kids and newly purchased talent.

Completely agree.

We have been very fortunate with injuries to key players, and our front 3 will have played non stop football for almost 2 years with little to no rest. Plus we have even more games coming up next season. And I don’t trust Origi or Brewter as back ups to the front 3.

City have an ageing squad hence the need to replace. Remember they only signed Mahrez last season. Sometimes squad balance is very important and any signing will curtail the growth of the team.

For any signing to make sense IMO some bodies have to move and I see Klopp keeping the same lot while promoting youth.

That’s exactly my point. City had just won the league and league cup double after investing in around £250m of talent that season. What did they do? They invested massively again in Mahrez when they already had 5 forwards on their books......and then won 3 trophies!

I’m all for developing our kids, so don’t get me wrong here.....but we need both.

But city can afford to have 5 60m players on the bench earning 150k+ a week for 15 games a season.

08:15 UPDATE: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang bid
Manchester United have submitted a bid for Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
That’s the outlandish claim from websiteFC Inter News, who say the Red Devils offered £62million for the Gabon international.
It’s believed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Aubameyang, 30, to replace Inter Milan-bound Romelu Lukaku.
Though Unai Emery could do with the funds to generate funds to sign top-target Wilfried Zaha - he report claims Arsenal are ‘trying to resist’ the bid.

Who said that we should do that? I didn’t.

I’ve simply said that we need one, perhaps two buys to improve our squad but compliment it with the up and coming kids. We have just lost Sturridge who was on a ton of money. So we can afford it too. We can’t afford 6 top class striker by purchasing them all like City - that much I agree with you on.

Replace your top striker with zaha, OK then <laugh>

Smart though. Auba is quality...although There’ll be little resale value....and Utd get 25% of anything that Arsenal pay for Zaha.

So they get £70m for Lukaku
Pay £62m for Auba
Profit of £8m plus 25% (£15-20m) of the Zaha fee

They’ll be up £25m and have a much better forward.

Auba is apparently on Sanchez type money at Arse which is causing all these rumours as they wouldn't say no to him leaving to deal with their overstretched wage bill .

I’d have thought they’d be prioritising getting Ozil out than him. I didn’t realise he was on such huge money though - I thought ozil was the exception there....

well they would almost certainly prefer Ozil out but even Arsenal must recognise that is going to a hard sell and Auba would be easier as Goals = money.
Have to say Emery didn't seem that keen on playing Auba & Lacazette together so it might even figure from a tactical pov .Mind you the list of players that they could do with moving on is pretty large , Mikhitaryan , Ozil , Mustafi plus any number of fringe players .

Manchester United are desperate to get back into the top four where does it leaves Arsenal if they sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang?.

They have to rebuild in midfield and defence. He’s the only asset with any value really. They’re stuck between a rock and a hard place. I’d still prefer Emery to OGS as a coach every time.

Gatalan publicationSportsay that the Reds are going head-to-head withBarcelonafor the Augsburg left-back Philipp Max, with the 25-year-old lined up to provide cover for either Andy Robertson at Anfield or Jordi Alba at the Nou Camp.

Max is yet to be capped by Germany at senior level, but was part of the German side that won a silver medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

Jordi Alba is garbage so he'll fancy getting a game if he goes there
