Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt is open to the possibility of a move to Liverpool - and linking up with international team-mate Virgil van Dijk.

De Ligt has emerged as one of the most promising young defenders in European football and helped Ajax dump Champions League holders Real Madrid out of the competition on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old has already formed a partnership with Reds talisman Van Dijk at the heart of Holland’s defence.

And now the highly-touted defender has spoken about potentially linking up with his compatriot at Anfield.”

What's happened to Vrij? Or are they playing three at the back?

De Ligt is arguably the best young defender in the world. Would be a great addition but I can’t see us spending so much on a defender. I think we would buy a more experienced and reliable defender, and sell Lovren.

Coutinho to Liverpool
According to reports, Coutinho could move back to Liverpool. The Brazilian is currently going through a rough patch at Barcelona and the Catalans are considering letting him leave. He could go back to Liverpool for £100 million, which is around £40 million less than what the Blaugrana paid for him.

Liverpool are readying a £25 million bid for Real Sociedad star Diego Llorente, it has been reported.

The Reds have pushed Manchester City this season, and are expected to continue spending in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool have defended well this season, but according to Spanish outlet Noticias de Gipuzkoa, Jürgen Klopp’s side have monitored the 25-year old and might move in for him in the summer.

The Reds are likely to face competition from Everton for the versatile defender, however.

Llorente – Fact file
The centre-half spent his younger days playing for the Real Madrid youth teams and the Castilla before a couple of loan spells away from the club.

Real Sociedad spent €7 million to sign him from the capital club, and since then, he has established himself as a regular for the Basque-based outfit.

Can’t see it happening. After last summers spending I reckon we’ll be looking for value.....unless we sell big. We do need that creativity though......I’ll be keeping an eye on the relegated clubs for another Tobertsin type purchase!

he could go back to Liverpool for £100 million <laugh>

who wrote that ****e ffs, barca should be grateful if we offer anything over £50 mill for him.

they wanted him that badly!!

Offer Barcelona £45m and they cover half his wages

I'm sure it was mentioned on MOTD that Sterling has issued a 'come and get me' to utd. If so, what a classless little twat. Even more so than is obviously the case <doh>

coutinho you mean....

i wouldn't worry about such bullshit. The only person he might be talking to there is fred and he's ****.

the fact is he has flopped. barca might be preparing the ground for a pogba move TBH and they might be thinking to make half a dozen **** players in exchange rather than pay utd big money.

He has a 1 in 3 scoring rate, which is good for an AM, they are comfortably winning La Liga, why is he considered a flop?

The (somewhat unfair) expectations that come with a massive fee. He hasn't improved them. Van Dijk and Alisson cost the same but revolutionised our defence.

Would most agree that we don't really need to add a lot to the squad for next season?

With Milner probably moving on and Studge deffo going I would look to replace those 2, I'd love Werner and that sorts out one area and with an improved Wilson coming back and AOC hopefully fit it gives us more attacking midfield option. I suppose cover full back would be a good idea.
