which is also why Ings was actually a pretty good replacement as he ticks most of the above boxes (maybe lacks in the creative department) but certainly is more speedy. Not a top quality replacement though but one to make do.

I’m sorry but Ings is nowhere near he level of Firmino, even as a back up. I know you’re not saying that Ings is as good as Firmino but he’s literally a millions levels below.

All Ings has for him is the ability to run around. Nothing else. Firmino works hard but he’s incredibly intelligent in terms of pressing the right players and the right times, closing and opening up space and gaps in the final third.

There’s a lot more to pressing than just merely running around.

We need a starting quality RCB

Trent and Clyne are adequate cover at RB.

Robbo and Moreno is adequate for LB.

We need a starting quality attacking midfielder (in the midfield 3).

Fast, direct wide man as cover.

Gomez hasn’t looked out of place, no reason we should be looking to push him out the side.

Moreno isn’t adequate cover. He has a mistake in him every game, even when he’s playing well, he (like Lovren) will have a brain fart and give away a pen or just totally lose his man.

Give me Sturridge over Origi and Ings. Sturridge is top class on the ball. He doesn’t have the speed or acceleration but he has the technique, instinct and vision. I wouldn’t be surprised to play a deeper role because his passing is top class.

Origi is a shame because he was seriously good before his injury. Can’t understand he how regressed so far since.

Ings? Not even close. Ings ran around a lot and was a trier, but his link up place and movement wasn’t even close to firm. Ings was more of a kuyt than firm.

absolutely, it's about pressing with your team mates and pressing at angles to cut off the passing lanes as well as pressing at the right time with anticipating where they are going to pass/move to.

Ings strikes me as intelligent enough to do that. Someone like Origi will probably never be able to do it

I’m not saying we don’t need to replace Moreno - I was just prioritising. Right now, I’d keep him if it meant buying a new RCB and AM.

Re. Gomez - I hope he makes it. The issue I have is that the defence is solely reliant on VVD. Take him out and everyone will fail. Which I why I think it’s important to sign a quality RCB to partner Virgil but also allow Gomez to develop in that role at his own pace.

He should be used in games where we will have majority of possession because of his ability on the ball. In these games, we don’t need him to press.

But then again, in games where we are chasing, he’s a great option to get a goal.

But if you sign a starting CB you’re not going to allow Gomez to develop? We’ve never seen him get a long run in the middle, now is a perfect chance for that. If he ****s up constently then sure, but I don’t think priotising getting a CB over someone that may not need replacing is correct when you have a LB that definitely needs replacing.

He looked good against West Ham dealing with the long ball (essentially holding onto arnautovic - but he got away with it as some defenders do).

He's always looked good athletically its just his decision making on when to attack the ball and judging the flight of the ball thats always been his downfall.

He won't get better at it without a run of games.

Joe Gomez will get to develop in that role even if a starting centre back comes IMO.

No - the back up LB needs replacing, not the starting LB. I want to improve this starting XI.
Which is why it’s a lesser priority.

And it’s even less of a priority considering Moreno is similar to robbo stylisticaly going forward which means our style of play isn’t compromised.

Gomez could be what we’re after all along and I hope he is but I think it’s very risky to rely on him, injury prone Matip and a **** Lovren to partner VVD.

In summary - it’s more important to upgrade a position where the starting choice isn’t guaranteed vs upgrading a back up option.

Sturridge may not run around like a headless chicken but that doesn’t mean he has a poor work ethic. This guy is as professional as they come.

Firmino's job isn't to hold up play or track back etc. [not saying you said it is btw]. His main job is to create chances for his team mates and himself.

ok so it didn't take him too long to show it but he was young and required faith.

gomez has a chance between now and January imo to first keep lovren out of team and then from there to convince klopp he really doesn't need another cb.

let's not just judge it now. he has some good attributes and some weaknesses to work on. for me he was caught out in positioning last year. if he can learn that quickly his pace and power and passing ability will mark him out as a good player.

if he tackles like he did v zaha as well... well....
