Probably because they were doing well enough at the other end for him not to be a crucial factor. If we were winning more games and at the top we probably wouldn't be as keen to get rid of ours.

Erm... well that'd be Us and the rest of the Prem Clubs. They voted on it in the Summer. The idea being that it'd stop clubs stealing their players after the season has started. Although as mentioned it makes no sense for the bigger clubs when European clubs (like Barca and Real) can still attempt to unsettle and buy upto September.
We are being linked with Wilshere. I suppose with Sturridge out on loan the medical team have nothing to do.

Said a few weeks back, if he remains fit for rest of the season then wouldn't say no a free. He offers something totally different from our current midfield in that he can run with the ball and make passes forward.
However, like any player that constantly misses over 50% of the season, it would be a big risk. A squad player, sure but couldn't rely in him for whole season.
