Someone who's normally spot on on another website (I won't link to it) has said that the VVD transfer was completely down to the boys over in Boston and no one in the UK (Klopp, Edwards, etc) had any involvement until they were told a few days later that it was all finalised. Basically, after the blunders over the summer, they took control and just paid up, no fuss.

Point being, it's also likely that Coutinho's transfer is also being sorted out by Boston directly meaning whether Klopp wants to force Coutinho to stay is irrelevant. If they're all about money and profit, he'll be off soon. If they recognise the football side of things, he'll be gone in summer.
Even if true, the fact that the negotiations were carried out without Klopp's input doesn't mean it's without his blessing. He's made it known for a long time that he wanted the player.
I don't think you can read into that that they just go ahead and buy and sell without his agreement.

Reactions: Klopp's Mannschaft
It's so obvious you want him at Barca more than they do.<laugh>
Doesn't bother me either way, I will admit to being intrigued as to why they want him. Suarez was obvious but it took him about 3 months to settle into the system, Coutinho is not really the same standard though and i will be interested to see where they use him if they persist with the chase.

I agree, it`s now more a case of tell us who you want and leave it to us after the summer debacle.

Suarez and Couthinho don't play the same game so comparing them doesn't work, Couthinho is at a very high standard in his particular niche in the game and it's not surprising that Barca and reportedly PSG are after him.

That's exactly what it was. Klopp and Edwards had no idea VVD was on his way until they were told a few days later. Signed, sealed, delivered. Of course FSG knew they wanted VVD though, which helped, but it's very telling that they didn't let them have any involvement whatsoever - not even any knowledge it was going on! It's big imo.

Edit: Not a case of, do you still want him? Ok, leave us to it. But not even telling the manager he was arriving until it was all signed off. That's what it was. Very different.

I do agree. I think there are better attacking midfielders than him, Dybala, De Bruyne and even Hazard maybe. I feel they also want a poster boy Brazilian for shirt selling etc.

Obviously they do want him.
I think he's matured into a better player than you're giving him credit for, but even by today's ridiculous standards he's not worth the price, or the fuss, imo.

Is there concrete evidence for this?

Fella's been pretty accurate for the last 7 years I've been reading their posts when it comes to anything football or LFC related. If they say it, I go with it.

I realise that means very little to people here in terms of concrete evidence, however.

They are going at it a bit too hard for that, though after losing Neymar it could be part of it.
I think they have a position in mind for him but just can`t picture it at the moment, he is not a Neymar replacement on the field. Time will tell I suppose.

Well Klopp made it perfectly clear he wanted him all summer so don’t think it was a case of by being aware anything was happening until he turned up. Someone from uk would have had to meet him and agents etc to get job done so they’d have been aware what’s going on

I think Sam Wallace reported this a few days ago.

But yeah, apparently it was Henry and Gordon who negotiated the VVD deal, and Not Klopp and Edwards. More damning for Edwards given it’s his job to do this.

Unless his agents etc flew to America on request?

For the money involved (both for the clubs and for VVD/his agent) is it really so inconceivable that people took a plane over?

I still don't get why this means that they will sell Coutinho behind Klopp's back.
