Might be confusing Pie, but you'll find Chelsea fans, many Uniturd fans, all the Everton fans (granted, like in the real world, there's not too many of them) and a smattering spittle-flecked Soton troglodiyes on this board. You can only tell the Liverpool fans by the five stars on their shirts. <cool>
 
At the start of the window Klopp asked for patience. I find it a strange coincidence that after that result in Germany Keita was made to train alone.

Maybe the club have deals in place subject to our CL qualification. I know the Coutinho transfer has taken front sit but maybe we will see activity should we get through against Hoff.

The facts are we have been in the doldrums for long and have not been paying top dollar in wages thus why many big names have shunned us. The new TV deal has allowed us to compete on these fronts but we will have to show it (performances) consistently over a long period of time to convince the best players

There will be No such deal.. it's entirely down to Leipzig. If the guy played total **** and hurt his team imo that's total ****e and he needs to be mugged off by his club.

You are right about players but the wagesnimo have been a huge part rather than anything else. If off pay 200k a week then players come. If thry offer 70k to a player thats a 40mil player thry just look at you funny the use you to drive a move to a real club.

Ahem...
 
Come 1 September, I just don't see Coutinho saying "oh well" before knuckling down and getting in with it. I think he'll sulk for a month at least before trying again in January
 
What a strange old transfer window. Can't wait for it to close, regardless of whether its bad or not, if we lose Couts and sign no one then so be it, just looking forward to it being about football on the pitch as opposed to who's striking or sulking off it.

If Coutinho leaves and we sign no one, I can't see you enjoying the football all that much tbh...

We can't be blinded by the absurdity of the Neymar transfer into thinking that is now the yardstick. Do any of us really want to see the transfer market scaled up to this level? Yeah, it would seem great for LFC in the short-term, but where will it lead? That amount comes in the through one door and it'll be straight out of the other. All our prospective "customers" will apply the same logic to us as we're applying to Barca, and in the end nobody will be getting any value for money.
The only people who actually benefit will be, as ever, the agents and facilitators. When clubs make a lot on transfer fees they have to spend it back in order to keep up. Agents' fees are just draining the money out of the game into private pockets.

The market has gone absolutely crazy. No other word for it. But we are operating in that specific market. The clubs just below the very top ( PSG, CIty) do not gain from these high fees because they still have to buy players other clubs covet. In the end it is only the ones at the end of the chain who benefit.

I was thinking if we get the £125m-£130m we really should take it. I agree that the Neymar transfer should not affect fees in GENERAL but this is a key player we are desperate to keep and the club wanting him has lots of money burning a hole in their pockets.

I can't decide which option would be best for the club. £125m is a huge amount of money and is way over what Coutinho is truly worth to any other club apart from Barcelona. This money could be used for the stadium, to buy other top players including midfielders and defenders. And the player could remain discontented. Suarez wasn't but then Suarez was a one off. Can we take a gamble that the player will get back to his normal self? Will Coutinho be pissed off by losing the chance of joining the team of his dreams- Barcelona may not come back for him next year.

On the other hand, we show that we can't be bullied and when we say no we mean no. Irrespective of who comes calling. That puts a marker for the future and that we are a CL team unwilling to disrupt and weaken our team to strengthen another simply by being shown a wad of cash.

I just hope LFC have taken the right decision.

1) Of the £114m that Barca have offered, the Telegraph repots that only £80m is up front. The rest is made up of add-ons, including Ford winning the Balon D'or. And barca winning La Liga and the CL -not likely, eh?

2) The Neymar fee hasn't made the market go crazy - it did that when Uniturd paid £100m for Carlton Pogba.

3) The Neymar fee is 100% relevant in this case - it means the skinflints have £200m cash in their pockets. It begs the question: if they can't afford cash now, just how the **** were they proposing to pay for Ford, even at the derisory £72m, if they'd have kept Neymar and used Ford for his bum-chum?

4) Most, most importantly - it's Barca, so **** them, one way or another.
 
In other news, The Times have reported on a more positive headline for Liverpool as they say that Southampton will be forced to sell players before they can spend any more money this summer. Whilst that does not directly impact the Anfield club, it may force them to reconsider their stance on Virgil Van Dijk.

Yahoo Sport had claimed that Southampton would ignore the wishes of the player and reject any offer from Liverpool, but this news may make them reconsider. With two weeks left until deadline day, there is still plenty of time for further twists and turns

If the breakdown is as you say - and it has been reported thus in a number of outlets - then I would happily tell 'em to shove it.
Though that doesn't alter my general feelings on the matter as expressed earlier.

Problem is, whether we sell for £70m, £90m or £130m clubs are still going to demand top money for their players because clubs don't need to sell anymore due to the amount of money in the game.

Look at WBA, turning down £22m for an average 29yr old cb. Why can they do that? Because they just got over £100m from the Prem.

The prices are all crazy but for a better reflection you need to look at it as a % of income. Pogba cos United £90m but as a % of their income he was probably what about 10%? Go back 15 years, Ferdinand cost them £30m.... now he was probably a similar % so really was one actually anymore expensive in relation to the rest of the money going around?

Just a quick note... id sell coutinho. Id have sold keita when he tried to break a leg. His antics are worse that the others.

Id have told lfc, city and chelsea the number in june after an honest conversation with vvd and told them nove fast or no deal.

The only issue with coutinho is conversations were had on this and the guy should know the score come august that he is putting his employer who he signed with 3 month before in a **** position.

At least southampton knew in may exactly the score.

Leipzig were in their rights turn deals down but then they nade it personal with his home town AND then the guy had not the manners to put in a firmal request nor to act like any sort of a pro.

Imo not one of these players are worth the money at this point.
