Liverpool intersted in Schalke pair Matip and Sane. [Paul Joyce]

Matip will be out of contract in the summer. Would be very clever business. Tall, strong centre back who is good on the ball. 24.

Liverpool are interested in signing Joël Matip the Schalke defender, when he becomes a free agent next summer. #lfc (Times)

Matip, the Cameroon international, who can also play as a defensive midfielder, is well known to Jurgen Klopp. #lfc (Times)

With Kolo Toure expected to leave #LFC when his contract expires in the summer, Klopp is keen to bolster his defensive options. #lfc (Times)

#LFC will be able to open negotiations with Matip from January 1st & a pre-contract can be agreed next month. #lfc (Times)

Mentioned Matip few months ago because I think Newcastle were rumoured to be interested in him... think Nozzer said he hasn't been great last couple of years though & possibly quite injury prone?

Would like it if we could go for Sane. Tall, athletic, pacey attacking mid. Somewhat like the chavs Willian

Liverpool are considering a move for FC Basel striker Breel Embolo, 18, who is also wanted by Manchester United. (Calciomercato via Metro)
The Reds are also interested in Schalke's Cameroon international defender Joel Matip, 24, who is out of contract next summer. (Daily Express)

Not had the best year, and hasn't developed as expected.

Not sure if he's good enough to be a starter but would add depth to the squad and can play a number of roles.

Would be a good signing on a free.

With the obvious link to Hummels we would do well to get Ginter in alongside him. Sorts out the whole center back situation.

We've bought plenty who were perfectly good at it before pulling on a red shirt mate....Milner's the latest example. Thought he'd really bring some threat for us from set pieces. Coutinho's first few corners got me thinking he might be the answer....but ever since he's been as **** as the rest.

It's been a running joke about wasted corners for over twenty years now. The only player we've had in all that time who has delivered consistently good corners is Gary Mac. It's bizarre really but these days I see us getting a corner as the opposition winning the ball <laugh>

city were done by then and shock... benteke was involved in us scoring even if just being a blocker.

    For me:

    a) we don't work on the standard moves enough.. you don;t need fancy set plays cos if you look at good deliveries like willian etc its so good that any fancy step overs etc won't get a better result that that quality delivery. I don't see us blocking runs to create spaces, i don't see us working on stopping others blocking our defenders either.

    b) the delivery is piss poor. I would expect that west brom have dimensions of every teams pitch and mark out the space for the taker and practice every free for hours. We should not be doing that but i would expect quality of delivery at home and it never occurs.

if we beat the front post the ball is usually a balloon. no pace on it, nothing really dangerous.

    c) Our players don't cheat enough. I dunno what happened to skertl and frankly lovern seems piss poor at set plays. We need more jersey holding, more grappling and really push the laws. All we seem to do is put the tallest players, can skertl, sahko.lovern in a line across the 6 yard zone, then mix in a bit of man marking so we see shorter players ending up marking the best players of other sides... again a lot of our plaers are not big enough.... benteke is a powerful weapon in defence and so should origi. origi looks massive but he'd not as strong. Clyne is short, moreo is strong... where is one of these clearing the space round mingolet.

  18. I think that's the MOTD effect. Everyone outside of Liverpool thought Gerrard was a set-piece master but apart from when shooting, he was awful most of the time, especially his corners!

Suarez and Alonso could take a corner btw

To be honest if you're getting paid 50k plus a week, the least you should be able to do is take a good corner ffs!

    yup. totally agree.

for 10k a week in the championship you'd expect it... what do league 2 players get... they should be expected to deliver a whipped ball to the pen spot.
