He was comical in the last game I watched when they played Utd a complete headless chicken who was about as likely to fall over the ball as he was to score a worldie.

    I agree.

Sahin is a holding player. When Lucas was injured in Rodgers first season Sahin should have played DM.

If this stats programme is true the panel surely cannot have blocked Bony who has great stats.

Lavezzi on the other hand maybe, who struggled for goals whilst being played out of position.

Can a computer programme identify between easier leagues and harder leagues to find the value of a stat? and the quality of team mates playing and assisting them I have my doubts.

In theory, of course it can. Whether or not the programme used does is a different question.

I highly doubt that we're making decisions based on a computer programme - maybe when Commoli was in charge and adopted the moneyball approach but not now.

Stats are an important part but are useless without context. Fallows and co are good scouts - they've identified quality young players i.e. Coutinho, Sturridge, Can, Markovic, Manquillo, Sakho, Moreno and they wanted the likes of Costa, Mkhitaryan etc.

Some of these signings look rubbish because the manager is not using them enough or simply has no faith in them. I stand by what I said - the committee have identified these players at good prices and have huge potential. The problem here is Rodgers.

Rodgers team selection has been dreadful this season. Its hard to tell what he's even trying to do. Though the striker issue has made things harder, he is making a problem in defense all by himself.

He needs to establish a solid spine to build on. One that equally accounts for attack, defense and ball retention.

When some thing works he also needs to stick with it. Dropping Lucas was clumsy at the weekend.

Though it is not the best I can see a spine in this team. Rodgers needs to put that spine together, stick with it and improve it over time.

    Manquillo Toure Sakho Moreno
    Lucas Can
    Coutinho
    Sturridge

Its not luxury but its well balanced. Rodgers needs to fill in the gaps on the flanks, which can be rotated to fit the game (we already have Sterling, Markovic, Lallana, Henderson, Borini and Suso, who are not bad options to have at all, and are a lot more than Rafa had in 08-09), and make good use of the impact options he has, like Gerrard, Lambert and half of the players in the brackets.

He also needs to stop blocking players out.

Whilst Sturridge is out I favour Lambert, but an alternative more similar to Sturridge or Suarez is needed.

If Rodgers can establish a spine and get some consistency in his team selection results will improve.

flappy it might be the a lot better than rafa had in 08/09 comment, though it seems RHC is only interested in being the spelling police... a task i'm afraid he's long since given up on with me.

that aside the basic premise of a strong spine to the team is fine. I would have to say he should've built since 2011 not start now as his policies have failed to improve much of anything with each window.

borini, allen, aspas and leading lights like balotelli and lambert.

The guy inherited a few problems such as players on high wages. but his signings are all just about touching the wages of guys he's shafted.

I've never actually corrected you, MITO. I actually wasn't sure if you had a touch of dyslexia, and that's genuine <ok>

  16. Bony may have had good stats but how did they stack up to the cost of signing him?

A computer programme can identify pretty much anything you tell it too. In simple terms, each league could be given a rating and after all other stats have been collated the end figures is multiplied by the league rating to give a overall rating. Same applies to team quality although I doubt you could go as far as individual teammates as you would need the same analysis for them as the prime player; ie you would need a rating for the other to get anything and neither rating is complete without the other #chickenandegg

You could use time lagged figures, e.g. from last season, or last month, or a weighted combination. I don't think it would be an insurmountable problem.
