Everyone in their right mind knows we're not weaker than last year. Sterling is good but not 49mil good. Gerrard left at the right time imo. Most of his goals were penalties that I'm sure someone else would be able to score this season. Sterling got 7 goals - not hard to replace those 7 goals either.

If you do a comparison on those 2 players alone.

Sterling gone, Firmino in.
Gerrard gone, Milner in.

Not to mention Johnson gone, so we no longer have to play with 10 men or with Can in an unnatural position.

The future is very bright.
Sterling may not be worth close to £49million but he was your main attacking threat last season. Rodgers has invested much of that money in a decent striker in Benteke but it does mean you are starting from scratch as an attacking unit. You'll recall that he sold Carroll as he wanted mobile forwards who could interlink play quickly not big lumps who can hold the ball up and head in crosses. That's what's just bought so it's a complete about face on attacking strategy!

I think you could have got another season out of Gerrard but that would have required Rodgers to be a bit more tactically astute to help protect Gerrard's ageing legs and we all know he's not capable of thinking beyond the obvious.

Milner is a good player but he's not going to elevate that midfield another level.

With both Sterling and Gerrard, Rodgers has replaced quality with dependable mediocrity. He's done that before hasn't he!

Firminho is a complete unknown although I appreciate he is currently considered a worldy based on Youtube clips and desperation.

There's no doubt that as things stand, you're worse off than you were this time last year when you were equally positive about what cracking transfer business Rodgers had done.

Good post 10/10 for effort.

2/10 for wummery

Would respond in more detail but I'm off out. I will pull it to pieces later though - I might even let my 6 year loose on it <ok>

How good did your mob feel last summer when 60 odd million Di Maria was bought and 300k a week falcao- turned out Fellini and Carrick had to scrape you to fourth which utd seem oh so proud of nowadays!

it is absolutely about what's best for the team and not what will keep the plastics still watching the tele <ok>

The WUMs are having a 'mare

Maybe if their own board had anything but threads about De Gea leaving them they wouldn't be so out of form

I couldn't agree more.

Having initially lauded the signings of Markovic, Can, Lallana, Lambert etc last summer, every Liverpool fan on here, except for Astro, then spent the majority of the season moaning about how the signings had only fleshed out the squad but hadn't actually improved the team.

So we are in agreement.

Lambert is 1/8 to join boro.... Those are some bloody short odds!
surprising as he could do a job in prem for someone like west brom or one of. Rely promoted teams

To be fair Zaha had played over 100 games for Palace and been capped by England. The fee United paid was punchy (£10million with £5million in add ons which I very much doubt were triggered!) but a number of clubs were after him for a similar price so that was his valuation at the time. Shame that he turned out to be a lazy bastard.

City's transfer policy so far this summer has been perplexing.
I had a Cardiff season ticket and he was truly awful.

Markovic?!! Are you REALLY saying everyone on here 'lauded' Markovic? **** off.

Nor did anyone laud the transfers of Lallana, Lambert or even Can really (Can was Lauded afterwards). In fact everyone was pretty much underwhelmed by all our transfer activity last summer

Where's the fun in Mancs/#bitters paying attention to reality though?

I feel pretty sure I read quite a bit about "the best two young fullbacks in Spain" <ok>
Really? Proof? Was it Astro?

We may have had high hope about Moreno and been pleased with a £12m deal, which still isn't a bad price considering the current market. But to say "two", I don't think many of us would have said that cause Manquillo was an almost unknown quantity and I don't think the majority lauded him as a signing.

Honestly can't remember who it was (but quite a few agreed), I only remember it because I had never heard of any of them and was curious.

Nope it wasn't me, some LFC fan called Diego <ok>

Bit like two full backs recently brought to the Premier League, and we all know Spain are noted for producing the best full backs in the world.

Yes of course.

Although a quick search...

The Markovic Appreciation Society
Organic Red
Like the look of this latest recruit, looking forward to seeing him tearing defences apart.

Flappy Flanagan
This is a very exciting deal.

timmy5x
I'm excited about Markovic think he will become a great player, just hope he can hit the ground running.

Redbrynner
his potential is massive

danilo
I'll take half a million in scouting fees. Its obvious Rodgers read my scout report right here on this very forum two years ago.

The Lallana Appreciation Society
Bring Back Footie
Sweet, got a lotta time for this lad, very talented. Definitely a great addition if it goes through.

Flappy Flanagan
I really rate Lallana and he suits our style nicely. The fee is step but I believe he can justify it. I say Lallana is pretty equal to Sterling and Coutinho, and all three offer some thing slightly different so we will have a great mix.

The Lambert Appreciation Society
Flappy Flanagan
Good signing. A striker who can pass, move and shuffle. Could be a nifty false forward between Sturridge and Sterling if Suarez is ever absent, and a good impact sub.

CCC
I see this signing as a striker Gary Mac signing. Hopefully, we can land Lallana, too, as those two have always linked up well.

kph103
He's far more than a 'big target man' He has good touch, good vision and finishes well.

There's much more that's easily found just by doing a quick search on their names in thread titles! I may have a look at Can, Moreno and Mantequilla later!
