God, I wish. The older they get, the more the complications, the more the insurance racks up until, for my lad's last two years, I just got basic insurance for accidents and paid for the existing conditions myself. Being a chunky 'English' Lab, he had a few conditions later in life. Labrador laryngeal paralysis was one that went from an occasional cough to almost continual hacking fits, and the almost ubiquitous arthritis that Labs develop. And believe me, vet bills shot up over here after Covid as well.

That said, it wasn't as bad as one of my neighbours' dogs, an old English bulldog that was about 5 when we got Astro (not the poster!) in 2011. She was paying then £250 a month for insurance for it (Astro's was £8.50, in comparison). That's the problem with thoroughbreds - they're sometimes inbred to the point of mutants. Astro was a thoroughbred, but the difference with Labs is that the gene pool is so widely diverse.

Owning a dog is not cheap here, believe me. And on top of that, Astro ****ing destroyed my kitchen when he was a pup. Little **** literally chewed through the 4-inch-thick leg of ****ing oak kitchen table, and all the knobs off the doors of the units. We were told to give him some cardboard to chew - which we did. He pissed on it and continued to demolish the furniture. <wah>
Mrs Solid came with dowry which was a mix of Border Collie and something else (probably Lab or retriever ) and she ate thru the kitchen plasterboard exposing the wiring luckily before we got together

Our dogs are super cool with cats; they've been raised with them. Trust them 100%.

That said, we accidentally adopted two kittens one older than the other several years ago. They didn't know the dogs were cool yet.

The eldest of the two, despite being just tiny himself would come running across the room to "save" his sister if he saw a dog approaching. He would arch his tiny back and hiss and scare off the two dogs every time they tried to make friends with the other kitten.

It's quite something seeing a six month old kitten come running to the defence of his three month old playmate to scare off a pitbull and a lab.

Probably what triggered him was the grey background which is what people do when someone dies.
True. Really, really poor taste for that alone. It's just an unbelievably disrespectful picture and post.

To lighten the mood someone posted (paraphrasing) 'it's not even accurate, Luis Suarez for Rickie Lambert was the biggest upgrade in the club's history'.

Think somebody else has cited Trent for Clyne, but I have to tell you, Clyne, before he went off the rails, was the best RB we'd had since Rob Jones, imo. I include Johnson in that assessment, too. And Finnan. Trent doesn't belong in the same company as any of those four mentioned names as a RB. And I say that without any bitterness towards his move.

Well, okay.. just a tad. :bandit:

Indeed. I stick to my guns, though, that Clyne was a far, far better RB than Trent could ever dream of being. They all were, those I mentioned.

Well, as we all know, Trent isn't really a RB. He wants to be a midfield general strolling about spraying balls, not doing all that running stuff getting tired and sweaty like.
Watching Szoboszlai play RB - he was doing all the things that Trent does and also defending really well - he runs and runs and seeing his performances there has made me less concerned about the injury problems of the regular RBs.

Agreed; it would him plus one other FB for me too since he could play right out left. I loved Rob Jones so is probably pick him but Arbeloa and Robbo would be better picks.

Finnan was the best crosser with his wrong peg I've seen too.

Dogs have owners cats have staff.
Lost our Tilly a year ago, what brilliant dog she was.Cross between Collie and lab, intelligent but also great temperament.Still miss her a year on but not getting another coz too upsetting when they go.

What a great girl. Sorry for your loss. It is sad when you lose a dog, as someone once said 'the only problem with dogs is they don't stay around long enough'.

You won't forget her and a new dog will never be a replacement but could be the start of a brand new adventure.

Of course- nothing is better than when the cats and dogs both get along...
Our Lab-mix robo-hip mutt getting her face chewed off by our rescued dumpster kitten:
(if every dog was like her, I wouldn't be so opposed to getting another dog some day... the other dog is equally good with the cats and allows herself to be chewed on and tortured by the kitten)

That's a good life lesson metaphor right there - nothing is better than when the cats and dogs both get along.

Two dogs.
Love my dogs.
I will be very sad when they die...
... But I'm never getting another dog... <laugh>

In the future I am only loving other people's dogs- strictly cats here on out. They don't bark and wake the house up every time they see a deer or opossum out the window at night... Or when they hear a dog a mile away barking. They don't cost thousands to get hip replacements. You can leave them alone for more than 8 hours without distressing them or having them pee everywhere.

Love my dogs... They're sweet animals... But they will be the only dogs I ever keep.
I have three dogs
The largest of my dogs is certain she is a cat and sits on the window sill
I will always get another dog when one passes as too many need homes
Two cats - will always have two same reason lmao
Both cats believe they are dogs one hundred percent - when we go on our walk in the evening they follow us the entire way - it’s surreal

2 rabbits and 7 guinea pigs
Oh and two children <laugh>
