Who partnered cannavaro and what league did he play in? In England short cbs are a liability more than an asset. You have to be able to fight your ground.
I agree with pretty much everything you've said here. Look how tall Messi, arguably the best player to play the game, is 5'7" and all the other great players under that height - Iniesta, Modric, Xavi and Maradona at 5'5". In the professional men's game though defenders and keepers should be tall. Talking about children involved in sport and height, try taking your (then) 5'3" son along for basketball coaching Just out of interest because my only point about differences in height was the obvious mismatch with Macallister and Burn, what instructions would you have given your players on defending that corner that resulted in the goal?
I think the comments being made are all sensible If I was arguing now it would be over semantics like using the word ‘should,’ However - it’s nice hearing everyone’s thoughts so cheers We all seem close enough Well apart from MITO who has a thing about short CB’s
Why quote wide forwards and little playmaker when the point is about centre halves needing to be tall. I've said this many times in clarification. Some positions height is not required and actually a disadvantage. Wide forwards who dribble benefit from low centre of gravity and being able to turn in tighter space. When you have a macallister it's not only height. It's about leap. Thaigo for example (when actually fit) has a superb leap on him so he made up for being average and rarely lost a header in thr middle of the park. Macallister is alright. This specific debate of burns v macallister is also rather pointless as it is not a normal situation. Slot did not send macallister to pick up burns. He sent him to the zone at the back stick as a blocker. Burns was prepped to go to thst zone for the mismatch and we failed to address it. The very next ****ing game the exact same scenarios arose. This is about cbs and I will stand by this if a cb is not at least 6 foot 3 inches I don't want to know and that's a minimum. You've seen gomez bulli3d many times by big.men all avoiding vvd like the plague and you've even seen matip who was as tall but more gangly struggle. This is the prem. You have to have the height to compete.
Ask yourselves this. How did carragher survive at cb for so long. Simple. He swept up behind hyppia as much as possible. He was too short really but went about kicking lumps out of lads like nani and hoofing it long at torres. Then came.danny anger who was 6 foot 3 as well and brave as they come and carragher did the same. The difference today is vvd does just go attack the ball. He stays on his side and the other cb has to front up as every forward goes over that side. It's like this. Newcastle play burn at lb I am.thinking salah has a big chance to have a run at him. He's too slow at lb. They play him at cb and it's a whole other ball game.
My only point in the whole discussion was about the Macallister mismatch showing that height matters sometimes - and Macallister isn't a CB so talking about other players in general who are 'short' was fair enough especially when Bumps had already extended the argument. Slot may not have sent him to mark Burn but if he's sent to mark an area, then it amounts to the same thing - you're marking whichever man is in the area. Newcastle taking advantage of the fact should have seen Slot change tactics.
Absolutely. They didn't expect him to be given a free.header or kelleher to be slightly unsighted but you always pick up the biggest danger with someone who is capable to putting him off. Burns wandered fsr stick as a tactic and we failed to have someone assigned to get him and hold him, drsg him and knock him out of his run. We only need look at the hilarious state of barca at the back v inter. If they could defend a set piece they would have been in the final v psg. Big.cb Big.no 6 Big cf. You'll go far. This is elite level football where you'll be embarrassed by Ipswich and Rory delap if you are not covered.
In actual transfer news - looks like agreed deal for 20 year old Hungarian keeper - Armin Pecsi. Currently playing in Hungarian top flight, nominated for golden boy this year and and had highest prevented goal last year. Talented one to add to the Gk ranks.
We're going for a combined Dutch/Hungarian team. Pecsi Frimpong - n.a. - van Dijk - Kerkez Gravenberch - Szoboszlai - n.a. Salah - n.a. - Gakpo Salah's not Dutch or Hungarian but he'll always be on the teamsheet anyway. We shouldn't have sold van den Berg...
I need to find a way to get Dutch citizenship if I'm going to be onboard with letting Dutch people be in the starting XI and feel good about it.
Florian Wirtz to Liverpool transfer takes twist as new Bayer Leverkusen statement issued ttps://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/florian-wirtz-liverpool-leverkusen-koln-35348541
Depending on cost, I wouldn't turn Gordon down... As good as our team is, we don't really have many players good at just breaking through defenders rather than playing around them. Wirtz has that in abundance, and Gordon is good at it too. He'd bring something different to the club. Of course if it came down to Gordon or a too quality centre forward, I think we need the latter more.
The thing with Gordon is, he's not consistent. If the team's in trouble he disappears. I like players to step up in that situation.
Gordon form dropped massively last year albeit not helped by injuries but just doesn’t offer same threat in front of goal gakpo or diaz does. Would cost crazy money and is a huge diver
