Not sure if it’s been discussed here before but what are people’s thoughts on Anthony Gordon? A name that isn’t going away.
Latest is City are after him. As Newcastle would not sell him to us it will be interesting if they will sell to another Arab owned club. Possibly at a dubious figure to assist both clubs with FFP
This is my comment from last week. I've since learnt he's also a lifelong Liverpool fan which is always nice: FWIW, I'm not sure that Gordon is any better than what we've already got.. but he's young and he brings something different. He dribbles the ball better than most of our current squad and can carry the ball forward when there isn't much forward space to pass into. I think because he runs and dribbles so much and more into shorter passing, he probably would do better with Nunez on counter-attacks. Nunez less likely to get caught offside if the ball has been ran up the field and passed to him over a shorter distance. Gordon reminds me of what Jordan Ibe LOOKED like he was going to become- before his development peaked too early on. I think how much he costs would be important.
I wpuld have reeled in horror a yeat ago as his sole attribute was running fast and falling over wjhen someone went near him , However i saw quite a bit of the England U21 team in last years U21 Euros and for the first time he looked like a proper footballer and that continued with Newcastle last season but left wing is one area we have covered and reinforcements/replacements in other areas are much more necessary so a no for me
Thiago retires from football. Looks like even the Saudi's were unwilling to take a risk on him. Quality player when in the right setting, ie Bayern. Frankly he should have stayed in Germany or a less intense league than England, too fragile for us or the league. Still think we should never have gone for him, high wages for a fragile 29yr old was a risk we shouldn't have taken.
Torn on him. Think he goes down very easily and never really rated him at Everton but has to be said he was very good for newcatsle last year. Pacey and very direct. Probably needs to improve final ball but only 23 so right age. Being an lfc fan (didn’t realise this when he was Everton, assumed he grew up a blue) is always a benefit as well. Think if we were to get him diaz would probably be off as well stacked for that wide left role.
Gordon is too expensive and made his bed joining Newcastle. We have to look back at what he said himself to.everton fans about how he loves the club and blah blah stick by the team while he forced his way out of there by handing in a transfer request and missing training Suddenly he's a liverpool fan??? Nah. Let's park all that stuff about being fan or whatever and look to what lfc look to. A) character B) ability C) price. Character is in question, the price will be far too high so is the talent thst elite thst we have to do this? I really don't think so.
Apparently his 'numbers are good', homegrown and scored v all of the 'big six' last season. Amongst the top names on the spreadsheet to continue our obsession with left sided forwards. Do I think he will sign?.................no.
I’m one of the few who was glad we did take a chance on him. Granted, his best playing days were behind him when we signed him but it was a privilege watching him in a Liverpool shirt.
Rio Ngumoha? Barely 16 and a left winger. Who knows if it comes off. There's the wolves 16 year old cb as well that we've not heard about.
He's got 12 months left on his silly contract and imo tjsts about all you'd get for him at this point if lucky from championship club Get it done imo
I think he was just glad to leave Everton after the fans turned on him and/or threatened him in the car park or whatever the story was. From what I’ve seen, he goes down far too easily and we don’t want that sort of stuff in the team. Technically Diaz is superior and if Slot has the idea of utilising Gakpo on the left where he is playing for Netherlands, then we don’t need another left sided forward.
