All this movement suggests to me we will be losing either Mane or Salah in the summer.

Always lots of talk about Salah's contract situation, hear next to nothing about Mané.

Add to that Dias plays in Mané's position, whereas, no one else really plays in Salah's.

Dembele e agreed personal terms with psg. Barca now want £20m. Despite telling him he’s not wanted and must find a new club.

Not sure they’re in a very strong bargaining position there

Liverpool confirm Luis Díaz signing and chase Fulham teenager Fabio Carvalho
Tottenham failed in last-ditch bid to hijack deal for Colombia winger

Liverpool are trying to sign the Fulham teenager Fabio Carvalho after completing a £37.5 million deal for the Colombia and Porto winger Luis Díaz.

A £5 million offer has been submitted to the Sky Bet Championship leaders, which would also allow 19-year-old Carvalho to remain at the club for the rest of their promotion push.

Carvalho, who was born in Portugal but has been at Fulham for eight years, is out of contract at the end of the season and the Craven Cottage club would receive next to nothing if the England youth international winger moved abroad in the summer.

Should he move to another English club at that point, an independent tribunal could have to rule on a fee. Liverpool were ordered by a tribunal to pay £4.3 million for Harvey Elliott, who moved to Anfield in the summer of 2019 when his contract at Fulham expired.

That move affected the mood between the two clubs, but the offer to allow Carvalho to remain in southwest London until the end of the season represents a further attempt to improve relations following on from Harry Wilson’s transfer to Fulham in the summer.

Carvalho has scored seven goals in 16 Championship appearances for Marco Silva’s side and Liverpool have followed him closely in addition to the swoop for Díaz.

It has emerged that Tottenham Hotspur failed with a late offer to pay a guaranteed fee of £50 million for Díaz in a desperate attempt to regain the upper hand in the battle for his signature. They were prepared to restructure the terms of the transfer and pay the full fee outright rather than with a portion of the valuation linked to bonuses.

However, Porto had already signed an agreement with Liverpool by the time the frantic overtures were made. The Anfield club are paying the initial £37.5 million with a further £12.5 million in potential add-ons.

Diaz also preferred a move to Liverpool and completed his medical while on international duty with Colombia before Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier with Argentina. He has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract worth about £90,000 per week and will wear the No 23 jersey.

Tottenham believed they were the frontrunners for Diaz last week, only for Liverpool to bring forward their summer transfer plans for the 25-year-old with the price having been lowered.

Another crucial element to the discussions was Liverpool’s willingness to provide Porto with a cash injection of £6.6 million ahead of the deal being complete, which staved off the threat of the Portuguese champions being excluded from European competition for three seasons.

Uefa contacted Porto at the start of December and informed them they were obliged to pay off all debts by January 31. They refused to relax their stance despite a plea from the club, who had been unable to sell fringe players. Liverpool’s general counsel Jonathan Bamber organised the payment prior to Diaz’s medical and this was crucial in allowing Porto to avoid Uefa’s sanctions.

Diaz usually plays on the left flank and has been tracked by Liverpool for a number of years. The deal has been driven by Julian Ward, the club’s assistant sporting director, in tandem with Michael Edwards, the sporting director, and head of recruitment Dave Fallows.

Ward will replace Edwards in the summer when he leaves after ten-years at the club. A work permit will now be processed for Diaz, who is unlikely to arrive on Merseyside until the end of the week.

So we basically scalped them and then paid their debts for them.

Like a back handed slap the the face and then drying the blood from their nose right after.

    Generous of us.

If true though it does show the two sides of football. Barca and psg playing silly buggers over an overpaid spoiled brat of a video gamer while Porto are that close to the wall they have to sell their best player as they did get to last 16 of the cl.

it does seem like we try to have good relationships with other clubs, which is nice to see, you never know when you could do with a favour yourself.

barca are desperate for money, I think they are hoping psg don’t even care about 20m.

I’ve never seen a club disintegrate so quickly. It like who ever was actually handling contracts, wages, bills, the actual running of the club has been tipping up to work pissed for the last few years.

maybe having a player run the club wasn’t the greatest of ideas, but much like messi, Barca have continued to believe their own hype long after the down turn occurred.

Chelsea apparently now also interested in Raphinha, because they obviously haven't got enough forwards, but he's unlikely to move before the summer.
