I think we got the wilson money, the grujic money might be what you are referring to? 10mil. so if we follow the logic. Alisson, kelleher, Someone Trent Bradley Robbo Tsimikas Matip gomez VVD Konate Fabinho Henderson elliott Thiago, jones Salah Rapinha Firmino Jota Mane Is that a big enough squad to complete having shed all of the above? I don't disagree on any of them BTW, none are good enough but what do we do for a squad? I see our mdifield there being 2 kids and two oaps and fabinho. 5 bodies where 6 senior players are needed, in theory same up front. 5 good bodies for 6 slots in a squad though. If we sold ox and keita and got a few mil out of each i'd hope for more than just one player personally.
However, in order to get around Championship FFP regulations, Fulham will reportedly not make their first payments on Wilson until 2022, meaning any short-term return for a Liverpool side still expected to sign a midfielder and forward this summer will be nonexistent.
Agree btw. We need CM and Forward so if we moved on ox and Keita I’d expect a replacement to come. Ox may not move, HG so helps there but if we got decent offer would be silly not to move on given contract runs out summer 22. I think Salah mane firmino Jota Raphinha for 3 spots would be brilliant. We aren’t going to be able to get 2 top quality players for every position in that front 3. But Jota can play left or central so covers mane and firmino in theory. Salah can play central as well if needed (and may end up moving there as he gets older). Plus you have Elliott Jones and Gordon who can all do a job on one side if needed. Just need someone that can come and play to the right/left of Fabinho and also cover him if needed. Hard to find but Bissouma is first that springs to mind. Box to box but can also sit and put in a tackle.
Also ironic that this was from an article in July 21. And we are still sat here 2 windows later saying we need a forward and CM.
yeah it is the case we can drop a jones or elliott in somewhere to fill space but then again we need the flexibility in midfield. you are right about HG. I put 20 names down 13 foreign, 5 HG over 21 and 2 u21s. that'd suggest a bit of work to do. Ox does add that even as a poor enough option but then so does Kieta as a 4231 option as a advanced left side type role. I think really we are looking at EITHER massive improvement from elliott and jones over time or needing to add a top quality box to box midfielder. I would however state this. we need someone who knows where the goal is, not another guy to run about outside the box beating players. for me its all plan a again with raphinha. all outside the box pressing run in broken play but not striker to score goals.
David Ornstein had reported that Tchouameni (Monaco) was on our shortlist of midfield options. A lot of people are raving about him but in theory (and based on his Ligue 1 performances), he could be the perfect LCM or Fab replacement. Bissouma would be very good as well but not too keen on him after the sexual assault charge.
Eriksen being linked to Brentford to join the 17* other danish players in their squad *may be slight over exaggeration.
Saw he was linked to Chelsea recently as well as a few other clubs. Haven’t seen any of him so cant comment but meant to be highly rated but would be a different approach to our normal recruitment. Not often we go buy a player like that. He’s ‘only’ 21 but played a decent amount of games. But would cost a lot and we normally wait and buy at 23-25 rather than take the risk
our recruitment for me falls into 3 groups. Sure things (eg. thiago, jota, konate) Callow youths (elliott, pitaluga gordon) The edwards slush fund: ****e but will show a profit (shaqiri, mianimno) I don't see us spending all that much on the callow youths as any hot properties like haaland and bellingham are not coming. the sure things seem to have played enough games rather than being a specific age. Konate is only 22 now but had 70/80 game sunder his belt and convinced the scouts. this lad being linked has 100 pro games under his belt at 21 (going to be 22 this month) and seems a big strong lad if nothing else. I presume the was means we are doing nothing til the summer.
Christopher Nkunku has been identified as a possible Sadio Mane replacement. (Echo) Another exciting name that we're linked with. He's having a very good season at RBL by all accounts.
I wouldn't put Jota and Konate in the Sure Things category. Thiago was an opportunistic signing - we don't typically go for players of his age or injury record but to get a world class footballer for around £25m, you take it. Jota, Konate are the usual signings we go for - along with Fabinho, Mane, Salah, Bobby. They're not cheap but they shouldn't break the bank - they're at the right age and will be entering the peak years soon. Then you have the cheap signings which can go down the Robbo / Kostas route or they can go down the Shaq / Taki route. Then we just buy for the academy.
That would be a very typical us signing. 24, playing for RB team who we obv feel similar style so players should fit in (minamino, Keita, Konate all signed from RB affiliate). On other hand could be bullshit and it’s an easy link to make given the above as well Thought remembers him scoring couple v city in Cl, actually got 3 v them in first game in 6-3 defeat. Gone to new level this season it seems League- 9 goals 9 assists in 19 games. CL - 7 goals 2 assists in 6 games. Would imagine his value has doubled this season
I think everyone who said salah was a chelsea reject wouldn't have put him in the sure thing bracket either. My point is when the club think they are certain about a player then they spend. And yes robertson was a Edwards type buy who couldn't get a game for 6 months but grabbed his chance eventually. He could have been in the sell for a profit bucket if klopp felt like it.
Klopp likes to tease, he seldom puts players in without an indoctrination period. Robbo only had Moreno standing in his way so his adoption into the first team was inevitable.
Milner too. But yeah, it was clear to us all from klopps comments he said yes but didn't expect much from robertson just as tsimikas now is in his head the reserve. Thankfully klopp does give a chance or two even so.
That'll be just me. I never said he was poor, just said he's a #chelseareject that had done well in a **** league. Admittedly, I didn't want us to sign him but that was more to do with him being a #chelseareject
Klopp kept a few back that season. Once VVD arrived, he dropped Moreno, Migs and Lovren/Sakho and introduced Karius, Robbo and VVD. Can't recall if Trent came in around then too.
