You just never know with the way we do our business, could be one totally out of the blue.

Best guess is we’re done and although that’s not ideal I do believe the resource is there if the right player is available - so if we don’t do it then those right players weren’t available.

klopp has said over and over that we don’t just get people in for the sake of it

Ever since we won the champions League, we haven't really capitalised on our success and we've just allowed our rivals to catch up and overtake us imo.

Precisely this. For a club that supposedly one of the biggest and well run, we act like paupers. Our owners will expect Klopp to perform miracles yet again.

Surely it’s just prudent with the current situation

if the club feel they can challenge for their targets whatever they may be with the squad we have and service our debt and improve the ground - surely that’s being responsible

    I don’t know
It’s all very complicated for someone of my age lmao

What current situation? We were led to believe all along that COVID screwed up the market and teams will struggle to sign players. Then we saw the likes of City and PSG making mega signings and we were told that we can't compete with these oil clubs. Then you see clubs like West Ham, Leicester, Villa and pretty much every other club in the league make signings to improve their team. Then we were told that the RedBird investment was to help us mitigate the losses from COVID and get back to our usual level of spending. We were also told that CL is crucial for finances and attracting players.

All we ever get are excuses. Our owners have zero ambition other than qualifying for CL each year.

Is it that way though ?
    Is Klopp unhappy
Is there a chance he has the squad he wants ?
Or is at the very least happy with them.

I think the club getting all of our major players contracts sorted is a good move otherwise we face more widji type scenarios

I don’t think they haven’t been trying but the market is probably too high atm

so we could be saving for the rainy day ?

We have improved our squad a bit - I think with Konate

not dissing what you are saying Jimmy cause I can see what you are saying

I just don’t think our club can live with those clubs - I think they have taken their chance to inflate knowing many cannot compete - a tactic used by AC in the distant past and Utd when they blew the market with Pogba transfer
It’s almost a follow us if you can - we can afford it can you.
As much as I think it will lead to surrender of the Prem - I think we can still compete in CL
I know you are right to a point but think you are almost wanting us to be ran by a major oil job as they are the ones with all the cash currently

I am waiting for the first crypto oligarch :)

We're constantly saving for a rainy day lol. It's always next summer where we will start to spend.

You're right - we did improve the defence which is great. But we needed to replace Gini and we need another attacker. We also need a back up RB if we're being totally honest.

I'm not asking for us to be like City and sign players for £100m. But surely we have enough ambition to improve the squad when it's painfully needed. I really wouldn't be surprised if we have another situation like last year where we will have injuries which ultimately cost us. We already lost Bobby for around a month I reckon.

Look at the Chelsea game - we needed to take Mane off but couldn't because of a lack of options.

As other have said, we were on top of the world at one point but we just stood still and let others catch up. Great teams constantly add 2-3 players each summer to keep squads fresh.

So you don’t think we could have brought on Big D <laugh>

will just have to wait and see

our actions do make it easy for pessimists like myself but I still think we are okay.

being honest I am still worried about the injury scenarios

but I don’t sleep if I acknowledge them lol

with the other clubs it will be interesting to see how it pans out - I am in the real tiny minority that didn’t see the ESL as the big bad it was made out to be as football has gone that way - Pandora’s box was opened long ago when Trevor Francis signed that contract

    but que sera

If we can keep the large core of our team fit, then we can definitely challenge. But I don't want to leave things to chance - I want to give one of the best managers we've ever had all the backing he needs so he can build a dynasty. If he leaves with only 1 PL and 1 CL, I'd be upset because this team / set up deserves so much more.

Would be curious to see the difference in the contract details between Hendo and Gini. On paper, Gini is a far more reliable option in terms of playing most minutes and is younger.

Just noticed that we gave a Hendo a 4 year deal! He'll be 35 when his deal runs out - that's a big contract, outlay for someone who is already injury prone and will play less.

I'm not saying Hendo shouldn't stay but I really do question this new contract. Our decision making over the past year or so is quite questionable.

Maybe Edwards has already left and is working for Utd as they seemed to have upped their game over the past year <yikes>

    30m for James

I waited 30 years for that title. i'm grateful for 1.

There is no dynasty possible with chelsea and city. there just is not we cna't think that way.

however we are the arsenal of the 00s. Won some built a ground but then lover loyal to players and too forgiving and unwilling to change. 4th is the be all. We need to be thinking how to win "something" rather than get 4th.

Dynasty was definitely possible after the incredible work that we did to win CL and PL. We were literally the best team in the world. But we didn't to capitalise and spend on the squad.

mate, no chance. We have two oil oligarchs who spend literally 100s of millions on anyone and anything in the league.

surely a legacy is a better word.

When this era ends we will have a 62k stadium (though not shiny and new its what we wanted more) a good training facility (its not world class though, its good but not the very best). Is that a great legacy? who knows.

I don't see a massively brilliant academy structure or a flow of coaching talent as well as youth talent. I see acquisitions picking off talent from other clubs whereas the likes of chelsea, city and utd seem to have it more sorted.

I could see 5 or 6 of a futher side as kelleher, alisson, trent, gomez, konate, tsimikas, elliott, jones and jota as all good ages but theres huge work to be done

And we were able to compete with them on a relatively small budget. Not only compete, but topple!

No chance. No one can compete financially with city, Chelsea or united so building a team that’s gonna win 4-5 titles in 6-7 years ain’t gonna happen unless it’s one of those teams. We’ll compete for trophies. But we won’t dominate English football because If city don’t win the league they go and spend 200m on their squad to make sure they win it next year.
