50% wage cut. But apparently reports saying he’ll only be there 2 years then spend a couple years in MLS with Barca paying his wages. Was only way they could afford to pay him was to spread it out over 5 years
Lol... what a deal. 2 more years then go to Florida and collect his image rights in one giant dollop tax free while barca pay him the full amount of the 123mil. You couldn't make it up could you.
Barca a suckers for Messi. Fans are idiots for demanding Messi stays and bankrupts them and the directors are morons for pandering to the idiot fans. Had the chance this summer to make a clean break and try to start something new. Instead they've agreed to be gouged for whilst be buggers off to America. No wonder they in such a mess with money.
I’m sure there are very obvious financial upsides to keep him. You don’t throw that kind of money about without a very clear commercial case. He is (still) considered the best player in the world….possibly ever…..a marketing dream….for now, anyway.
I know there isn’t really such a thing as loyalty in football but given Barca have given messi everything. Paid him silly money for the last 15 years, paid for his growth as a kid to help him develop, helped him win multi trophies and individual awards, you’d think that as he clearly doesn’t need anymore money, he’d maybe give them the final few years of his career on a modest wage and help the club that he supposedly loves, clear some money and get back to a position where they can grow and become more stable again. or him and his agent can fleece them for as much as possible putting them into more debt and not worry about the next 5 years
Sounds like the average player these days, so as they get as much money as they can, they're not arsed. I remember hearing that something daft like 30% of Barca's income can be linked to Messi in some way - sponsorships, merchandising, etc - without even factoring his contribution to the team's playing success. Makes sense that they're so desperate to keep him on the books however much it costs.
Great deal, even if it's just to sign him and then flip in a couple of years. Medical staff must be confident in our current defenders staying fit for the season.
At that price I am not sure how we can lose even on loaning him out to german league for a couple years to start to pay it off. Even ben davies will be a profit For me however its not a deal to do until all other deals are done and dusted and we see the remaining cash, if there is any. With 4 top cbs plus a young talent like konate we can even loan out williams if preseason goes really well. We need to look at no 9 and also at cm imo Henderson, thiago, fabinho, jones, milner, ox. Sell keita so theres certainly room for someone. The forwards are one shy of a good crop imo especially with age profile now. Mane salah Joao firmino just need one more as shaqiri and origi just ain't up to it.
That's a great deal which makes me think either they don't want him or they are waiting for a Michael Edwards special - something like pay half now, half next year or better.
Chelsea opening gambit turned down by Dortmund. The germans know the chavs are good for the full amount and can force it. They have 75mil out of the mancs to spend on malen plus 2 others. If lfc were in for these guys the press and agents want us to talk about we needed to get it done a month ago.
To 500k a week, on a 5 year deal where he’ll only be a Barca player for 2 of those years before coming back to be an ambassador. 5 year deal is just a way to spread the cost of his wages out
indeed. Makes you think that our business is all but done. Or we will pull a rabbit (Jota type deal) out of the hat.
