Torres was well in decline hence the comparison. He signed a rag tag collection of players for Chelsea (David Luiz in his prime stands out) most of which have disappeared. Maybe they weren't his choices and maybe the same will happen at Everton who have a dof involved in identifying prospects.

(My comment was meant to be a bit of a joke. Everton under their 3 previous managers signed anything that moved making it look like a club strategy and not any particular manager's strategy)
If they signed Benteke it would break the mould :bandit:

At the time Torres left us for Chelsea, the were question marks as to whether he was in decline or simply downing tools / suffering a loss of form under Woy. I was very much of the opinion that he was declining but not everyone was the same.

Torres and Benayoun weren't a fair comparison to Benteke. They played quick free flowing football, were versatile and worked hard. Benteke is a big lad up top.

I realised you were joking mate, just thought I'd comment regardless <laugh>

To add further to my comment re. type of player Everton are signing, they're currently being linked with James Rodriguez (who Ancelotti has managed twice before) who is also in decline and quite injury prone. Do you see a pattern forming? :bandit:

Tottenham warned off Danny Ings move
Tottenham are in the market for a striker due to Harry Kane’s injury lay-off but former Spurs stopper Paul Robinson doesn’t think they have a chance of landing in-form Danny Ings.

The former Burnley and Liverpool hitman has been firing in the goals for the past few months and will be crucial to Southampton’s hopes of beating the drop.

Robinson cannot see Tottenham being able to convince Saints to sell the forward, who scored as Southampton beat them 1-0 earlier this month.

"[Ings] is a player who would fit in nicely, and he does fit the bill so yes, but I think there’s no chance of us getting him as he’s key to Southampton’s survival," Robinson told Football Insider. "A move like that wouldn’t be a January move, I think it would be crazy for Southampton to sell him."

Liverpool are reportedly set to make a huge bid for Bayer Leverkusen superstar Kai Havertz. Mundo Deportivo has claimed that the Reds are very keen on the 20-year-old and will soon make a bid worth £107 million.
Jurgen Klopp sees him as a priority signing and one that would take his already brilliant Liverpool to the next level. Havertz has scored two goals and provided one assist in 14 Bundesliga games this term and is considered by many as one of the hottest young prospects in world football.

Klopp 'makes transfer decision'
Jurgen Klopp will not allow any senior Liverpool players to leave the club this month report the Daily Mirror.
Xherdan Shaqiri was linked with a move to Roma yesterday with reports suggesting the Serie A giants had enquired about a potential loan move.

Loanee could return
Liverpool forward Taiwo Awoniyi could be set for a return to Merseyside following his loan spell with Mainz 05.

Reports in Germany suggest the 22-year-old striker’s time at Jurgen Klopp’s former club might be coming to an end.

Speaking in a press conference, Mainz’s sporting director Roven Schroder admitted Awoniyi’s Bundesliga spell may be cut short.

As cited by InsideFutbol, Schroder said: “We have very good strikers and a fairly high number of them.

“It may be that we have to give up Taiwo.”

He must be some player if Klopp is willing to pay that much.......assuming this is even remotely true, obviously.
