its a mix between living off long ball which put them at a serious disadvantage and trying to get involved. When firmino drops deep and makes something happen he cannot be also in the box to finish a cross.
you are right. We need to be at least 5 yards deeper min most games... like... can't look at fulham but against "real" teams. We need the back line higher to get all the players closer to each other. What it sort of reminds me is off rafa's team in 2007. we were close but not close enough. Goalie sorted defence sorted Midfield sorted 1 striekr.. sorted right wing.. kuyt slow but sorted. no left wing... rieira was bought in cheap... benayoun tried there. but most of all we finihsed second as we had keane as striker reserve til january... but we had no cover for gerrard and torres and ended up second due to thier injuries. right now.... Goalie sorted Defence sorted Midifeld issues Attack sorted Not got the depth. We don't yet have the ultimate 11. I think klopp would have like keita to be more ready by now to be that pivot player who can sit when needed and link play but be the attacker when needed.. We are close to what klopp wants though.... But the depth just isn't there. Defense was ok. midfield unbalanced but attack... we are relying on a bit of luck and ORIGI...
The depth to the squad is an issue, we have no one reliable to come in upfront. ( I still have a faint flame of hope that origi could come good) Midfield is well stocked, but all with the same sort of player, we've missed ox, but we still need that attacking midfielder that is very good on the ball and can pick a pass. Defence CB is fine, matip and lovren are ok for backup. If Joe can stay fit I'm more than happy. Obviously fullback is a massive issue. I reckon I could get a call up before Moreno.
Matip is good for backup CB and Milner can play for another year both should stay with us next season.
yeah too many the same is the issue for me. I agree on ox being missed. I view it as we have 3 no 3s and a winger (milner) and a half no 10 (lallana) even ox is a "is he a winger, is he a no 10 what is he".. and then we have keita.. the great hope. Fabinho, Henderson and windy look to me like no 6s. Fabinho is a the archetypal one. henderson is a runner but he's never a no 8 for me. Windy for me the further from goal the better he is. lallana and ox and even keita would be the more attacking CM of the three or a no 8... not easy to put 2 of these into the team. For me we need a proper box to box CM. keita was that hope for me. don't get me wrong milner is a good player but he does look like a winger a lot in where he makes his runs and is most comfortable.
It's difficult to put midfielders into pidgeon holes as they are expected and capable of doing more than one job, but if we look at in the football manager sense we have 1 true DM in fabinho 2 box to box in ox and keita 3 all round cm in milner, wini and Henderson. 1 maybe attacking mid in lala. Now fabinho, I'm happy with, ox and keita can hopefully do the box to box bit, attacking mid is severely lacking. We are well stocked with cm that are alright at everything but not the best at anything.
I think Origi is ok as a sub - he's quite lively - but I don't think he'll ever be good enough to adequately replace any of the current front three if they have a long-term injury.
He has all the physical attributes to be a great player, he's quick, powerful and has a decent touch. He just doesn't look like he has the brain to be a top forward. Shame really because he has shown flashes, but they are too few and far between.
my view is hey are not allrounders. Milner for exmaple with the best will in world and great respect for him... he's a converted winger and his instinct is to go wide. thus opften we leve two guys to voer the entire pitch while he's off being a winger Windy for me was a no 10 at Newcastle but my god he's just not good close to goal
All rounders is the best way I can think of putting it, they are decent defensively, not bad going forward. It's a kinder word than average I suppose.
Milner was a CM that got pushed out wide (because he's versatile) before being put back in the middle. He's never been a winger but I agree he doesn't have positional discipline.
I always thought Origi was a bit flaky but I think he too is developing under Klopp. I like that he stays cool and looks to go towards goal. I like all the forward players to be just that, forward.
Only issue I have with him is his predictability. He tries to beat his man every time and shoots on sight of goal every time too
Look if we had our ideal 11 im sure a lot of the guys we abuse would be good enough especially today I h in one or two to keep players fresh.
Was he? I’m sure he started as a winger then played one season at CM (at villa) then back to wing. He’s definitely not a natural CM.
