Brazilian outlet UOL report this morning that Manchester City have pulled out of the race for Shakhtar playmaker Fred - so they can concentrate on rivalling Liverpool for Jorginho’s signature.
The Napoli playmaker has had another brilliant season in Serie A, making 32 appearances, leading both Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp to show an interest in the player.
The Reds have looked like front-runners for the Italian’s signature since initially being linked during the winter, but fresh rumours believe he is keen on working under Guardiola at the Etihad.
With the transfer window now officially open - yay! - Liverpool would certainly have to act fast to get this one over the line.

Steven Gerrard has already wrapped up the signings of Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield and Hull City goalkeeper Alan McGregor ahead of his first season in charge of Rangers - and now he’s eyeing two Premier League strikers to bolster his attacking options.
He knows both of them quite well, too.
The first is Bournemouth’s Jermain Defoe. The veteran striker hasn’t done enough to force his way into Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this summer’s World Cup, and he could well be tempted into reuniting with his former international colleague as he winds down his career.
The other, though, is Dominic Solanke.
According to the Scottish Daily Record, Gerrard has held “preliminary talks” with Jurgen Klopp, believing his friendship with the Liverpool boss could help swing a move in his favour.
Gerrard, they say, is also linked with a move for former Reds Lucas Leiva and Martin Skrtel.
He’s really trying to get the band back together, isn’t he?

No chance they’ll get Lucas or skrtel, wage demands would be way too high would imagine.
Vould be a good loan move for solanke, although I thought he was very good b Brighton so Klopp might be looking to involve him more next year, especially of adapt that 4231 formation a bit more.
