Coates had a really good pre season, watched him a lot and thought he stood out in our defence. He looks like he has the attributes to succeed, tall, good in the air, decent reader and awesome at scissor kicks, but just seems like not been given a chance.

Watcbed forst half half yeaterdsy and he played really well and they've definitely been better defensively since advocat came in and put him in the team. If we don't want him I can see Sunderland going for a perm deal now they've stayed up.

Sinilar with ilori, would like to see him during pre season, his pace would really help our defence as it would allow us to push further forward without risk of getting caught out like when we play lovren and skrtel who both like to drop back because of their lack of pace.

Coates looked absolutely shocking nearly every time he played for our first team. Still looked better than Lovren though <laugh>

Coates is a guy who lost a lot of time. I don't know in other words. the issue is we have lovern and sahko for LCB.

We are going to take a bath on coates.

Honestly my last view was oldham where he bottled the physical battle. i dunno

Ilori we need to look at in preseason. two loans two big injuries. where is he at.
 
Why is everyone putting lovren as a lcb? He's right footed... Play him at rcb where he'd be far more comfortable rather than being pulled j to LB slot and having to tackle wth wrong foot or try and slice a clearance with his left.
 
I'd say Coates as looked good at Sunderland because they're a backs to the wall type team. Near the foot of the table and having to defend in numbers most weeks, being pushed back meant he didn't need to get back in position eliminating the lack of pace issue. As a standing blockage, he's a decent player that's big and strong (although should be stronger for his size). I don't think he's good enough to cut it at a a club with CL aspirations.

I wouldn't put him at RCB or LCB, I'd put him on the transfer list!

Yeah but we all know players struggle coming direct from S.america to Orem. Need that stepping stone of Portugal/Spain/Italy. Now he's had time to develop he might start to improve, he's only about 22/24 I think so younger than lovren as well.

Plus us he can score awesome scissor kicks

True although I'm not sure a player needs time to settle when it comes to strength and speed <laugh>

Liverpool and Tottenham are both considering a move for Juventus and Italy defender Angelo Ogbonna this summer, sources have told ESPN FC.

The Premier League clubs are in the market for a new central defender during this summer's transfer window and Ogbonna is high on their wanted lists.

Ogbonna has struggled to hold down a regular place in the Juventus starting XI this season, making 16 league starts as the Bianconeri retained their Serie A title and reached the Champions League final.

The 26-year-old has failed to establish himself ahead of the likes of Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci and Andrea Barzagli since joining from Torino in the summer of 2013 and he could be tempted to move on in search of regular first-team football.

Tottenham and Liverpool have been long-term admirers of Ogbonna having tracked him during his time at Torino and they feel they could lure him away from Turin this summer.

Spurs are expected to offload the likes of Younes Kaboul and Vlad Chiriches at the end of the season freeing up space for manager Mauricio Pochettino to bring in defensive reinforcements.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to resolve his side's defensive problems with Kolo Toure departing when his contract expires, while Martin Skrtel is yet to sign a new deal and Dejan Lovren has struggled to impress in his first season at Anfield.

Hes left footed so would be competition for Sakho really... Need a decent RCB to replace skrtel.

True and with sakho a injury record maybe that competition would be useful. Actually think attacking players are more important for us at the moment, so rather keep skrtel lovren Sakho and use ilori and spend 20m on a striker

Without doubt attacking players have to be the priority. Just offering a new link for discussion <ok>
 
Defenders have to be a priority as well.

We took the lead against Villa in the Semi Final, and we took the lead against Palace. What's the point of scoring goals if you can't defend a lead? If you look at the one bright point of our season was when we went on a 13 game streak - we didn't score many goals but we weren't conceding which was why we were able to accumulate a fair few points.

I agree that we need to boost the attack but defence is just as big a priority.

Why not throw midfielders and keeper in there as well, we can prioritise a whole the team then <whistle>
 
And just because you're right footed doesn't mean you play at RCB. Terry and Vidic are classic examples.

Switching sides is not as simple as some think. Ask the greats of the game like Hansen, Cannavaro, Baresi - they were world class in their positions but struggled when switching sides.

Funny you say that - because they are priority also.

But sort the defence out, then you can at least move Can into midfield. Which partially solves 2 problem areas with 1 signing.

you could buy the best keeper defenders and midfielders, it won't matter diddly if we can't score goals!
