Release clause of £M100 is going to be frightening to suitors, instead of losing him for nothing next summer.
At this point a release clause of 30mil or40mil would be great but imoits not the reason why he won t sign
Given how clubs exercised their powers this summer, I'm not surprised Can wants to put in a release clause. Put in £50m and be done with it - losing him on a free next summer would be criminal as well as losing Coutinho.
What is the reason? He's already a mainstay in our midfield and Klopp plays him whenever he's fully fit. I think the release clause is a plausible reason because whilst I don't think he wants to leave right now, I'm sure he will in the future and he doesn't wanna be in the same position as VVD or Coutinho.
I am not surprised he wants a clause as he's seen what could happen if the club of his dreams (after us obviously ) comes calling. Let no one here be under any misunderstanding. He holds all the aces in this game of poker and has the club by the balls. He has only one year left on his current contract and if he doesn't sign he could start negotiating with his next club in 6 months time and without a penny being paid to LFC. We want him to sign a new contract and if there is a release clause in it so be it. He is not going to agree to have some release clause of £100m as this is as completely meaningless as not worth having. No one will want to pay that amount and he will want something that a club would reasonably consider. I honestly think that the club has done an Arsenal and negligently let his contract run down to this point.
Interestingly I was just thinking that all future contracts may now have to include a release clause. Under the various rights to work and human rights legislation. Any person has the right to choose where he provides his labour provided the employer is compensated etc. That is no one has the right to force an individual to work for another individual or organisation.
This Summer has shown that contracts need to change, release clauses have to be put in place to stop this circus. Shorter contracts would also be a good idea.
The Can situation is annoying, he's been bang average for us and as soon as he starts looking like a very good player he ****s off for free.
Interesting chart from CIES Football Observatory on the overspend this summer - http://www.football-observatory.com/IMG/sites/mr/mr27/en/ ''According to the algorithm developed, the most over-paid transfer in absolute terms was that of Kylian Mbappé from Monaco to Paris St-Germain: +€87.4 million between the amount reported (add-ons included) and the estimated sum. Conversely, the best bargain from a financial point of view was achieved by Liverpool for the recruitment of Mohammed Salah (-€19.4 million).''
If Sulky Phil had had one we'd have lost him, and we wouldn't have got anything like the price we're expecting now.
those Everton overspends, but their underestimate of Sakho, especially in this CB market where Jonny Evans became the most sought deadline day player, undercuts their validty
The Sakho one is interesting but I guess it factors in him not playing for a year so it's an anomaly really.
But it would have prevented the circus that surrounded the transfer and we would have bought a replacement.
I'm not really sure what I think of this, there are two sides to it. If everyone has a release clause then the holding club is powerless, and the big money clubs can just take whoever they want. Seems to me that's almost how it is already, but that would complete their dominance.
