Heres the problem then, if Klopp only wants his first choice targets and we can't land either of them (Keita is definitely off this summer) then whats the point in still having time in the window as we wont be buying anyone or wont be looking at anyone else.

Last year the squad was only just good enough to get 4th (barely), we've only added Salah (of any real 1st team quality) and may lose Couts, so overall the squad is no better. This is made worse by Rivals spending big and addressing weakness, and our own added games with CL. So I'm pessimistic over the coming season as I feel we've wasted yet another Transfer window (for a different reason this time) and will have to have yet another year of transition and waiting, when we should have capitalised on the progress of CL.
What I meant by the bit you highlighted was that the window is still open and it's still possible that some things are going on that we don't know about - therefore I won't pass judgement on it until then.
If Klopp thinks he'd rather work with what he has than bring in someone he doesn't want then that's his call as manager. He'll either be a genius or an over-confident fool.
I know I keep saying "wait and see", but I can't see that there's any other choice.

To be perfectly honest, with the amount of cash that you could potentially get from Barca, it could well be a good move for the club.

Yeah Coutinho is a top player, but you know Barca have just received loads from PSG, so you can ask for silly money. The problem you'll have is spending that money, especially with everyone else knowing how much you've got for Coutinho. Every player you go for after the sale, the price will go up.

Too late to spend all of it sensibly now, and besides which, we supposedly have £135m aside for VVD and Keita. £70m on extending the Anny Rd End for a start would be money well spent.

Sure if he goes....if Klopps that sure of Keita...offer the 100 mill. I mean we were going to 60+ anyway...with our "own" money. Money is now meaningless so test them like Barca do....hell do the same with dick van ****er...

I mean we'll be robbed by any club that we go buy off bevause we will have the money.. .the rules don't matter so hey! Go with Klopps choices.

80 mill on Keita

80 mill on the Southampton whore

Then see if Klopps right?

So, if Saints and Leipzig had agreed to the transfers would FSG say "Oops sorry, we were only kidding."?
They've bought Salah, and they were willing to cough up for the other two, even before the possible Coutinho dosh - so where exactly do the tightarse accusations come from?

I still think it'll be like Suarez despite what rival fans think. 1 more season and then he'll go with our blessing.

I'm not clutching at straws, but I hope so. But Jurgen is the key - if he says no sale FSG must back him up, whatever the cost. If he lets him go we screw Barca for every penny, even though we can't really spend it. But if barca won't cough up - well there you go Phil, they don't really want you that much. Now put your boots back on and remember it's WC year.

Wut?

He's saying FSG were 'willing' to spend £140m on the two players we haven't bought. Yet FSG are seen as tight.

The fact they haven't actually spent that money...

Actions vs Intentions
Correct.
So are you suggesting the willingness to spend is a sham? How would that work then? If I go to the pub for a pint and they've only got Carling, does it make me a tightarse if I walk out again? :)
It's worth looking at the signings they have made since taking over. We've spent a lot of money - whether or not it's well spent is another matter.

I'm serious...

I never got the debate about how much a player is worth.. .millions? Ffs ...they are twats that kick a ball with varying degrees of success...some teams have won **** with a couple of megastars..some with a bunch of highly disciplined medium players.

I've always argued a manager should, within the means of the club get their players and live or die by them.

I've also argued that while loyalty is bullshit.. . Contracts should be honoured.

Spent the day being told that's naive by the same guys who criticised us for not respecting the rules and other clubs contracts :emoticon-0108-speec

We are now weirdly in a position to test my theory. We were going to spend 100 mill plus on those two players. Told no. But then we said no...apparently that means **** all now.

So: go offer 100 mill for each or whatever...the money no longer matters.. .rules no longer matter...

Klopp gets the players he thinks are vital...yes?

Well, great job we got CL, it's meant our best players haven't angled for a move and we've been able to bring in some big quality names. Oh wait...

But, they COULD possibly end up not spending the reported £140m and trousering the Couthinho money(if he's sold that is), that would be the straw that breaks the camels back as far as the supporters are concerned.

Unless of course we win the Prem and CL of course.<whistle>

All hypothetical of course.....isn't it?

The fact is we only probed Southampton... enough to unsettle the player and ruin their outlook.... we actually bid for Keita. The evidence being Leipzig turning down bids publically.

We can only conclude we would have been willing to buy Keita at about 60mil or more and before we sold anyone to balance books.

Saved was begun and over prior to any bid on Keita we can't conclude we could or would not buy both.

Maureen has been talking about Signing Bale for the last two weeks, was it ever going to happen? No, It was never happening, never ever happening.
Yet it sounds like he and ManU were willing to spend big on him.
