Saints will create one in order to drive up the price. They can invite and accept bids from whoever they want and can say to VVD, wev'e accepted a bid from a CL team, off you go. It would then be up to Pool to match it.

There is no way in hell he's coming to Pool on the cheap after the tapping up admission. Should be in pole position assuming they meet the valuation but might still stuff it up given the summer so far!

He could put in a formal transfer request but the greedy ****ers never ever do that!
 
It's great him saying he wants to come but money talks and if City for example slap down the cash it may change his mind. We'll soon see if he really wants to come to us.
 
BTW I agree above. if he wants to go the minimum he should do is submit formal request and waive bonuses in his contract.

There is a case where if he fails to move though... he's waived those and loses out.

He would want to wait till bid is on table and saints say well.. go can go but waive your rights and then do so.

Southampton captain Virgil van Dijk has taken a huge step to force through a record breaking transfer to Liverpool.

The 26-year-old Dutchman has been linked with a move to the Reds all summer but the Saints firm stance has kept Jurgen Klopp at arms length.

Liverpool have been pursuing Leipzig's Naby Keita but the German club have also refused to budge despite two massive offers.
