If Keita turns out to be the player Klopp thinks and bosses our midfield for years to come then he'd be far more important than Coutinho, especially considering we have very good players that could fit into Couts position.

At this stage we can't sell Coutinho though as we need to know for sure that Keita is the man to build a team around.

If FSG sell Coutinho to fund Keita they're mugging the fans off totally.

Who do we have that can play his position? Lallana? He's the only one that's similar but doesn't have the quality that Cout does.

Like we all expected the Spanish have come calling. To be fair their opening bid was more than I expected. I could see them going up to £85-90m. Which the club will have to consider as he is IMO not in that price bracket. Pogba is more of a playmaker than Cout but our player scores more goals.

But the problem we have is that even with £90m who can we get as replacements? Two inferior players with overinflated prices. We all know what happened when we let our key players go for record prices.

All in all not worth disrupting our team for. We have to believe that he won't be sold at any price.

It's the same situation:

Liverpool bidding on Keita
Barca bidding on Couts
PSG bidding on Neymar.

They are all key players for their teams (who all have CL footy assuming Pool qualify) and are trying to challenge domestically and have an impact in Europe.
They are all under long contracts.

It used to be that money always talked but I think teams have realised that it's worth more to keep some players who generate money through on field success and commercial deals.

Given what Barca have turned down for Neymar and Arsenal probably letting Sanchez go on a free next season, maybe deals won't be as easy to push through, unless the player agitates for the move like Suarez.

Jürgen Klopp has revealed why he’s been playing 17-year old Ben Woodburn in a midfield role during this summer’s pre-season fixtures.
Ben Woodburn shot into the limelight last season when he opened his Liverpool Football Club goalscoring account against Leeds, becoming the Reds’ youngest ever player to do so.
Regarded primarily as a striker, the youngster operated mostly from the left-hand side during last season’s campaign when called upon, undertaking the occasional stint as a second-striker during Klopp’s experimentation with a 3-5-2 system against both Stoke and Wolves.
Interestingly, however, the Welsh prodigy has been fielded as the left sided number 8 in Klopp’s 4-3-3 system during pre-season so far this summer and it’s got to be said, he’s been impressive. Despite his small physical stature, the 17-year old has been superb on the ball, dribbling and passing his way through opposition

If Neymar goes to PSG i can only see Coutinho going to Barca from there.

80 mil probably does it and the figures being thrown around with Neymar means they can afford it.

We would be ****ed mind.

80? no chance mate... none.

If a CB and CM start at 70 barca are not getting away with that. especially if they get 150mil for neymar.

What I mean is we have a lot of attacking players so our team would still be very good offensively. A like for like switch, possibly not, but a slightly different set up would be fine.

Mate we sold Suarez for what? 75 million? The best striker in Europe.

Coutinho is still not the finished product. Just because we're being idiots and bidding silly figures for these players doesn't mean the value of Coutinho will rise.

If we sell Coutinho at any price, we are dismantling our team just like Kieta club selling him. What is good for the goose is good for the gander,

For a huge sum I'd sell him. He's capable of being an amazing player but he's not the most consistent. For 150mill I'd sell him to get VvD and Keita for example as that would be a net improvement in the team.

OK so once Coutinho has spent a year asking to leave and is looking at serving a long ban we'll sell him for £110m (allowing for inflation)

Walker is £50m. Get a ****ing grip on the non-reality of modern prices.

We sold Suarez what 2 or 3 seasons ago? The money has changed drastically since then, and we still sold Suarez for that amount of money despite him racially abusing a player and biting another player.

Barca are hardly short on cash so if they want him they can pay top dollar.

Its not just us though. Lukaku for £75m. Morata for £70m. Walker for £50m ffs. Even Sterling for £50m few years back! Prices now are even more crazy compared to even 3/4 years ago.

seriously..

lucky just fetched what could be 100mil in the end
keita hasnt even kicked a ball in CL and is 70mil
the list goes on and on and on.

the facts are:

a) coutinho is god for us globally and is our one star.
b) coutinho is now established for brazil
c) coutinho is our highest paid player on a 5 year contract

all this adds up to a world's record fee to secure him... of course if neymar goes for 150mil it won't be but we should not be underestimating what we should be seeing form coutinho next year.

Coutinho at no 8 with mane and salah to pass to.. his free kicks.... etc etc.. it could be huge so no way we are selling on an asset like this.

Some clubs have totally lost track of value. When Walker is valued at £54m then absolutely anything can happen. £195m for Neymar seems like fair value. while £72m for Coutinho seems like a pittance.

At £100m-£110m, which is a very high price for Cout, I still think we shouldn't sell. If our whole system depends on him, then who are we to get to replace him? Will we like in the past over bid by £20m-30m to get the players we are interested in? When clubs know you've got money to burn they overinflate their prices, why shouldn't they?
