Liverpool increase offer for Roma winger Mohamed Salah – reports
The big transfer chase of the week for Liverpool sees them pursuing AS Roma’s attacker Mohamed Salah, with a £35 million deal reportedly close.
Having had an initial bid of £28 million rejected for Salah, Liverpool have come back determined to seal the Egyptian’s signature sooner rather than later.
That’s the reports emanating on Sunday, with the Mirror claiming the Reds are “closing in” on the transfer after increasing their offer, with Roma demanding €40 million for the 24-year-old.
The report suggests Salah will sign a £100,000-a-week contract to move to Anfield, equalling the transfer record fee paid for Andy Carroll from Newcastle United in 2011.
Salah scored 15 times in Serie A this term for Roma, who finished second behind beaten Champions League finalists Juventus—who he claimed an assist against just before the end of the season in a 3-1 Roma win.
Scoring 19 in all competitions, playing both wide and through the centre as a centre-forward at times, Salah has returned to prominence with some scintillating displays and individual goals after falling short at Chelsea, where he moved in 2014.
Elsewhere, other reports are even more optimistic, if less immediately credible: an announcement is imminent according to the Express, who cite a BeIN Sports reporter claiming the deal is all but done.
Salah would provide the Reds with an additional wide attacking threat, lessening the reliance on Sadio Mane, but his capacity for also playing as a centre-forward would give Jurgen Klopp the option to continue playing the 4-3-1-2 system seen toward the end of 2017/18.

We offered £30m, Roma wanted £40m so £35m or 40m euros seems like loyal amount.
Think he'll be decent addition, real pace which we lack without Mane. Obviously be issue with AFCON with them both going but that's 2 years away so by then hopefully we'll have improved enough that won't miss them.

Good thing about getting someone like Salah is that it gives us options in attack but also in midfield by allowing Cout to drop back if needed. Various way of lining up and it's hard to really see any of them being weaker than the other.

Can mix things up based on the opposition and if we are dominating possession then can use first line up with Cout creating things from deep to the runners and movers up top, or if wanted to be counter attack can go 2nd with pace centrally and more solid midfield with Cout floating.

No doubt he's a brilliant CB when on form. Has all the attributes needed.
£50m is bloody steep and I've always said it's dependent on if we have a budget and if it stops us strengthening elsewhere.
If klopp is allowed to soend £50m on him and still go get the Lb and CM we need then no problem with it. If it would mean we can't afford other targets then should look elsewhere. Sure there are other CB's out there for less that are just as good.
