£30m is a lot less than £50m
10 years ago is a long time.
You will always be also ran's with the mentality of "that's too much", if a player is right for the team and what you need you pay the price.
Van dijk would be perfect for u as imo.

Yep, you buy what you need. £30m for Ferdi seemed mental money, Vidic was a **** lot cheaper, both of them more than proved their worth to the club over the years.
Price is nothing, impact is everything in football.
VvD is a superb player and would make a very good midfielder too.

10 years is a long time but apart from Luiz and Stones who were both massively overvalued, no defender has cost anything more than £30m

I'm not saying VVD isn't brilliant player and I'd take him in heartbeat. Bit £50m and all that pressure? Who knows how he'd cope.
Obviously a risk, and if we got him certainly wouldn't complain.
But if it meant we didn't improve the squad in other areas like LB, CM and CF then I'd be disappointed.
