[HASHTAG]#LFC[/HASHTAG] believe they have no option but to select [HASHTAG]#Matip[/HASHTAG] after FIFA effectively told them to sort it out with Cameroon themselves. (Paul Joyce)

Matip cannot play for the club while Cameroon are at AFCON unless they have an agreement with Cameroon for him to do so. (Paul Joyce)

Liverpool have asked FIFA to clarify the rules. Fifas response is to read the regulations.

You can't make this up.

Its embarrassing, I think if we feel we have tried to get to the bottom of it with **** all help then we'll just play him and appeal if anyone pipes up.

Could just do without being in the headlines for something like this though.

Just play him regardless. Worst case scenario is he gets banned for the duration of Cameroon's participation. No point in not playing him just in case, it's the same result fds

Could end up with a longer ban for breaking the rules and the club having points docked for playing an ineligible player.
Suck it up and accept the rules like Bournemouth have with Afobe.

Don't think we will play him until 5 days after African Cup has finished or Cameroon get knocked out. Not worth the risk, just like Sakho last year when he had the drugs thing hanging over him.

Yep, better safe than sorry. Points deduction may sound a bit OTT but it is an option for knowingly fielding an ineligible player.

If he'd been selected and refused to travel then yes. However, he wasn't selected FFS

Matip should have just issued his international retirement (even if it proved to be a temporary measure)
