JWP is Southampton. A good footballer who is professional, hard working, intelligent and really represents the city and the fans.

It's like when Joe Allen left Swansea. The money they got was decent but they lost a huge part of the club and its identity and found it extremely difficult to replace.

I have no real issues with a midfield combination consisting of 2 o 3 of Romeu, Hojdjberg, Lemina, Davis and Armstrong with a sprinkling of Stephens and Reed but if we sell JWP we lose a big part of Southampton FC in my opinion. And a bloody good set piece taker.

West Ham just did so for £4m.

And if it costs £25m then spend it (oh hi Lookman or Dembele).

Yep, can't see anything happening in terms of ins now. Just have to make do with what we have. I don't think we go down, but will definitely be in the mix throughout the season. I suppose with the terrible windows we have had in the last couple of seasons it was impossible for it all to be rectified in one window, still think overall I would class it as average at best at this moment in time.

 

Did Saints do that, though?

I suppose they did in a way. They sacked the guy who suggested buying the machine, but that guy was just the machine operator who shouldn't have been giving advice in the first place. But the guy whose actual duty it is to invest in equipment is still here.

 

It doesn't weaken the midfield if JWP is our backup right back. Our midfield is Armstrong, Lemina, Hojbjerg, Romeu. If that's only average, it'll be just as average without JWP.

 

Not been disastrous. We have brought in some good players....just not the striker we really want. I bet the board were quite proud they did early business.....now they can see that they would be more admired if they bought the same players towards the end of the season.

 

Some would disagree as he’s born and bred Pompey , and all his family are Pompey fans.

As was he as a youngster I believe.

 

Been here since he was 8 as he often reminds us.

I disagree. We were awful last season and have not improved in any department (except maybe defence, but I watched pre-season and it doesn't feel that way). We needed a too attacking player and did not get one. Not a good window.

 

It all comes down to weather you think we were awful last season due to Pellegrino or the players. We were still pretty terrible under Hughes but he came in with not much time to change things, we largely stayed up because Swansea were ****ing useless, not because we were particularly good after the manager change. If you think (like I think a lot of our fans do) that our squad isn't actually that bad and has just been badly mismanaged last year then it hasn't been a disastrous window as we have addressed areas where we needed strengthening, all be it not all of them.

 

JWP- my heart says no but there is a case for selling if we can get a striker with the money. £15m seems a poor price though, when you are wearing the striped glasses.

 

Ha! Never said I didn't rate him, just that I dudnt see him as the future of our midfield. Looks like that'll be proven right one way or another

 

Sadly, our squad has been badly diluted over the last four years. We used to have a slim, strong squad and now have a bloated, weak squad. Who from this squad would get into Koeman' s first season team?
