I was told there are THREE sides to every story - your side, my side and the TRUTH!! Can't argue with any of what you say re Basil GM, but look at it from the positives. Yes, we have a player who is worth a pittance compared to 9 months ago, but how many £Ms are Lewis, Aarons, Cantwell and Pukki worth compared to the start of the season???
We'll never know all that went on, but IMO it's more likely that Oliveira wasn't prepared to change his play to fit into new tactics. That could produce a battle of egos that DF and SW weren't prepared to put up with. Did Oliveira ever make an assist? Pukki has 4 so far and is a perfect fit for DF's tactics. It isn't just about attitude in the dressing room, it's about putting the team first and that just doesn't seem to be his way. I hope he does well at Reading and hurts some of our rivals, but I'm glad he's gone.
You may have half a point if Oliveira had been a great team player everwhere else he's been and only had an issue at Norwich or if he'd suddenly gone from being great under AN to useless under DF. In relation to DF adapting the playing philosophy to suit Oliveira I can't say much more than I said in my previous post in relation to RvW and RvW is a better player than Oliveira. It's not the coaching staff's job to get the best of each player, it's the coaching staffs job to coach the players to be able to play the style of football that it's been decided the team is going to play and get the best out of the team. That's why it's normally the case that really good teams play much better than a collection of individuals. It's not the head coaches job to adapt to the player it's the players job to adapt to the style of the team. There's a reason why it's been so difficult to get rid of him and why the first team spirit has got so much better the further Oliveira and some others have got from it.
Bloody hell that's allot of responses. I'm glad he's going too, if it facilitates a decent transfer fee then I'm happier still. But if he performed for Neil (To an extent) and then for Reading then that is for me indicative of a problem with either his game for our prefered system (Highly probable part) or the clubs use of him. Lets be honest. Last season with the tepid and often diabolically slow build up, Pele might have struggled and I'm sure Pukki even with his higher work rate would have also struggled. Might Pukki having struggled and scored less than 10 goals been wriitten off as a Celtic/Norwich flop for British football? All what ifery, but in the times and places scenario, NO has not had it great. He has a ton of talent and I think he could have still been an asset for us, but both he and the club have failed to make that happen. Bah!
There's a player in there somewhere, but also an over-inflated ego. I don't blame the club at all, other than for not reading the signs of where no club had ever wanted to offer him a contract other than a loan until we came along.
He's been out in China. Not sure the standard of football/fitness out there. He was still decent when he left Chelsea.
When you consider wages paid, I expect a similar split - when you factor in the obscene amount we still have to pay waste of space Naismith.
Sorry if this had already been posted, but I have read that WBA looking at Jacob Murphy from Newcastle. Also, DF talking about getting in another winger which he clearly sees as a need. The defence is still leaking soft goals but DF seems untroubled by this situation.
I thought Farke said we needed help in "The Wide Areas", this could mean he is looking for a full-back or a winger. We need cover for if Lewis or Aarons is out & cover for Hernandez & Emi
We used to have Ben Marshall who could do a job in both those positions but I get the impression he insisted on a move due to lack of game time - and to make a point to DF - who was happy to grant his loan move. Read into that longer term what you will!
