Bristol City are keen on signing former Peterborough winger Tommy Rowe.

Robins boss Steve Cotterill has drawn up a list of summer targets and the 25-year-old Mancunian features prominently among the midfielders the manager feels could do well for City in League One next season.

Rowe left Peterborough when his contract expired at the end of the season and is available on a free transfer.

There has already been contact between City and the player's agent and Cotterill is hoping he can persuade the former Manchester United trainee to move to Ashton Gate.

Peterborough decided against offering their captain a new deal when he expressed a desire to move back to his native Lancashire after five seasons on the books at London Road.

But that will not put off Cotterill, who is looking to replenish a depleted midfield department. Experienced campaigners Stephen Pearson and Marvin Elliott were released at the end of last season, while loan signings Wade Elliott and Simon Gillett returned to Birmingham City and Nottingham Forest respectively.

A left-sided player, Rowe forged a reputation as a goal-scoring midfielder for Stockport County and Peterborough, netting 34 times in a total of 247 appearances for the two clubs.

Cotterill has identified a requirement for more players who can contribute goals to help out the strikers.

Steve Cotterill has drawn up a list of targets for this summer, with his first signing set to be ex-Peterborough captain Tommy Rowe, after he left the club following their play off defeat to Leyton Orient.

Cotterill will also look into giving one year deals to Nyron Nosworthy and Wade Elliott following impressive loan spells. He may also move for Tyrone Barnett after he was transfer listed by Peterborough.
