It really depends on a lot of things. At the end of the day, we currently have last season's League 1 top scorer under contract. That's pretty significant, imo. Surely, his 24 goals in all competitions last season would translate into something good in the Championship. Only 1 of his goals last season was a penalty. The rest from open play. And he's still only 23! Let's say we get into the playoffs, partly because he scores something like 10-15 goals. What is that worth in money? He's been under contract with us for a while now. We've played a part in developing him, including getting a loan move spot on. I'm not sure the teams sniffing around him are going to offer that much. So, it all depends on a) how much is offered and b) what he could potentially do for us this season. How do you weigh those two things up? Because, at the end of the day, it's all a gamble. Selling him is a gamble in the sense that what if he's the 15 or so goals striker we've been looking for and we're shipping him out instead? Without him, what if our top scoring striker only gets something like 5? Could we hope to sign someone as proven as him? Maybe we should offer him a really good contract, secure his services for the next few years. He can't be on much with us currently. So, what if we offer him something on par with the best contracts at QPR and tell him he's very much in our vision for the season?
If he can see we have players that can give him service, which I think we may now have, maybe that could persuade him.
