There's also the homegrown quota. I'd rather an additional Welsh player in our ranks.
And that is the problem, if this guy was from somewhere abroad and we watched him, most on here would not be interested, maybe because he is Welsh we are looking through those rose tinted glasses. Just nowhere near what we need for next year, should we stay up. We already have a yound central midfielder who is home grown who will be a better player than Williams in Matty Grimes.

Understand the point you're making but we have a difference of opinion on player ability.

From the small amount I've seen of Grimes I don't think he'll ever be half the player of Williams.
I reckon that Williams could force his way into our 1st team.

Re: Zach Clough and Josh Vela
It's funny to think that buying these 2 would cost less than Grimes cost us.
They already have a lot more experience than Grimes.
Clough in particular has looked one of the better attacking prospects in the Championship for the last 2 years.
20 appearances, 9 goals.
This season he has only managed 9 league appearances but has still managed to chip in with 3 goals in a relegation bound team .....he dislocated his shoulder at the tail end of last season which has no doubt hampered his development this season.

Grimes must have had a great agent hyping him up.

How much have you seen Williams play, shipped out continually to Championship clubs and you feel he is good enough for our first team. He is nowhere near Palaces central midfield and I don't believe they are as strong as us. Yes it is about opinions, but I wonder how you would feel if he wasn't welsh. For me nowhere near the quality we need to continue to move forward. I do respect your opinion, just ours differ on this one.

Since Monk left we have got 11 points in 7 games , over a season that would be 50 points
We did this without any different players and during some very trying times .Since we made some good money off of Shelvey we've won 2 out of 3 with the only loss to a pitiful officiated game against Sunderland .
All the transfer panic talk should have left with Monk imo , a bit hindsightical but it appears to be true .
If we keep Ayew , a striker is a want for me , not a need .We are pulling away from Sunderland and have our nose in front of Norwich , I love it when a plan comes together. Guido and Curtis seem to be a good fit .....it's all good imo .

Admittedly only half a dozen games or so but instinctively I like him.
I see him competing with Siggy for the attacking midfielder slot or on the left of the diamond in midfield competing with Ki. Longer term he might develop into a Leon type.

I used to play CM (so have stronger opinions on players who play this position than some of the other positions that I know less about) and for me Ki (like Shelvey) is a luxury player.
To play CM you need to be a jack of all trades technically (tackle, decent touch, close control, skill, see a pass, execute a pass, sense when the time is right to get forward, have a decent shot).
But the most important aspects are mental. A CM needs to have game intelligence. I'm not sure you can coach it to be honest. It's all about the way your mind works....the ability to predict to a high degree of accuracy what your team mates and opposition players are going to do next, to see how the situation is going to develop, and position yourself to intercept. To smell danger and close the space down. To anticipate the way the opposition player is going to take the ball and/or turn ad nick in there and steal the ball away.
Most important is to be a hustler and relish the battle. I would love it, LOVE IT when you'd start to get to people....they'd get so frustrated they started to lash out. Made me play better. I enjoyed the fight.

Ki doesn't think like a midfielder.
He doesn't smell danger.
He doesn't anticipate what the opposition are going to do, often he seems to have no clue where they are....this is why he can seem to dwell on the ball and get caught.
He doesn't fight for the ball. It doesn't seem to bother him that much when somebody steams into him shoulder to shoulder and knocks him over....at least you certainly never see him up the nasty side of his game.

That's not to say he's not a good player, just flawed. He'd be better in the Siggy role but Siggy can do all the things he does and works his nuts off.

....to me Johnny Williams looks like he can hustle, has good technical ability and has game intelligence.
Much like Leon had (and still has) when he moved from wide right to CM.
Much like Joe Allen has.

So in short, I'd ship Ki out this summer and bring back Joe Allen.
...and replace Shelvey with Johnny Williams ASAP.
Leon's not going to go on forever and the more HG intelligent, hustlers we have in midfield the better.
Spend the big money on top quality attacking players for the front 3 slots instead.

Disagree about you're Ki thoughts in general , he's just coming into his own ....but that's just my opinion .
But let's give you the benefit of the doubt , Cork is ready to slot into that position

Its great this game as it is all about opinions and ours obviously differ largely, I se him as a tidy player and a championship one at best. But we will see how far off I am in the future, Feel free to remind me if I am wrong. I just don't see Palaces 6 or 7 choice central midfielder someone who can replace Ki, britton or Siggy.
