Yes RER, I thought he was improving towards the end of a dismal season and I expect him to pretty be 1st choice at RB, but with some good attacking play as well - let's hope he has a more 'rounded' player in front of him as well.

It does seem harsh on Rudd if that is indeed the case and I'd rather McGovern was loaned out to a league 1 side initially to see how he performs in English football.

I don't think it's harsh on Rudd at all. Both he and Ruddy were found wanting last season. A new keeper is rightly high on the list of ways to improve our team. Neither of Rudd or Ruddy seem capable of putting match winning performances on. So a new no. 1 who actually earns us points with the odd great save rather than costs us them with howlers would be grand!

    Bah!

Indeed. And they've both had extended runs in the team as no 1 keeper, but sadly failed to show consistency on anywhere near a regular enough basis.
Clearly our stuttering defence on front of them was not confidence building but both were average / poor for large chunks of last season.

I believe McGovern is 29? Notwithstanding the fact that 'keepers tend to play on longer than outfield players, I wouldn't have thought that he would sign for us to languish in the reserves at his age.

He declined a better offer from Saints because he didn't want to be number 2 to Fraser Forster!

Actually General, a new keeper was one area I suggested at the end of last season and as you say, neither Rudd or Ruddy had any particular performances - obviously not helped by some woeful defending and I'm sure with a better keeper, we could have avoided relegation.
Now all we need is an additional CB and striker and we can look forward to at least being at the right end of the table, especially as some of the youngsters put in a good performance yesterday and so could at least make the squad..

I'm sure he'd play well if put at RB.

The demolition of the Leicester side is happening now, somewhat belatedly. it is a shame but last season surely was a one-off and only really got away with it because the raditional top 4 were in some kind of turmoil.

I wonder if Kante and Mahrez may struggle in a team basically of individuals whereas Leicester were a close group who gave their all for each other!

    Time will tell!

Good point. Maybe. Although Conte seems like a real motivator who shows his emotion on the sidelines. Might bring the team together a bit more. Plus maybe Mahrez and in particular Kante, could bring that Team work ethic to the side.

It seems that the reported Brighton interest in Martin is incorrect. What a surprise. But I believe a move there would be in all parties best interest. He is a very able championship defender but we need to aim higher than that. And we then sidestep the captaincy issue.

Very happy Delia is cooking up a recipe for promotion and that we are set to swoop for McGovern without denting our war chest too much.
