The actual article in the times wasn't really about the players being put up for sale. It was more taking about the fact that we have appointed two agencies to conduct the negotiations and contracting as we're lacking in industry experience at the top.

Personally I think it's sensible there never any harm in admitting what you don't know and where you need help. It also says we can be fairly certain that our new CEO won't be an internal hire.

 

Has anyone considered that we may have triggered an extra year on some contracts to give them a selling fee rather than a freebie like O'Neil?

 

I like the sound of this re-union with Bassong and Turner...Andrew Crofts has just been released by Brighton and we could do with another midfielder!

What's Michael Turner doing these days?

 

Turner hasn't played for us since Feb 2015, and has had loan spells at Fulham and Wednesday. If we couldn't sell him with 12/6 months on his contract before, why would we sign him up for another year just to try and sell him? Free agents can also demand greater signing-on fees and wages at their new clubs by virtue of not having a transfer fee.

The club wouldn't have given him another year if they didn't want him around the first team, and he wouldn't have signed without reassurances of having a fair chance to fight for a starting berth. Whoever the option to extend lies with, it makes zero sense to sign him to try and sell him.

 

It's an automatic one year extension entirely at the clubs discresion. This of it more as us having the right to terminate a year early than an extension. As Dave said why let a player walk when you could get a fee.

 

Forget Turner where are Nelson and Tierney?

You'd be subbed for a change of shirt, and we would be down to 10 men until the ball goes out of play again. I'm sorry, but it's a no from me.
