There's a long way to go of biding, and negotiating before the season starts, let alone transfer deadline day. If people are getting this worked up after 10 days, they are not going to have an enjoyable summer.

10 days is usually longer than England last in tournaments.

So we arrive at the deadline day and haven't strengthened the squad...we need to be active now. This lets wait and see or we'll be okay with what we've got is crazy, we've all seen what happens if we go that route.

But how do you know we are not? 10 days, teams will still be negotiation prices and values. How do you know we haven't made bids? You don't know what's happening at board level.

I wonder if the 10 days have been more spend trying to get in a new Managing Director in.

I was making a point based on what people were saying on here. There's no rush, squad is good enough to get us up again...that sort of thing. You're right I don't know, I was looking at our record last season under this manager when he knew we needed to strengthen and didn't.

For pity's sake, the window doesn't open until July 1st, we can only sign freebies and unattached till then.

Every one in our squad is ten years too young to join QPHA

Players can only join their new clubs on or after July 1st.

Nothing wrong with getting your business done ahead of then though - we of all clubs should know the perils of leaving it to the last minute.

If a player is in demand, sometimes you have to pay extra but it always helps to get in there early. Just like Arsenal have done with Xhaka and just like Bayern Munich have done with Sanches and Hummels. Manchester United are repeatedly caught napping and they miss out. It's no secret they were after Hummels and Sanches too.

Let's say we are serious about McCormack? The only way we'll get him is if we agree an inflated transfer fee with Fulham and we do it early on; if we don't, Newcastle or somebody else will.

Yes, I agree; but it's not an easy change to make, especially for a yo-yo club like ours.

With Redmond on the way out this is only going to exasperate this problem. We've tried the 'experienced' route, I'd like to see us give Maddison, Toffolo and Murphy a chance. Of course the young guns might not be able to take us up but there is no guarantee a bunch of past-it has-beens or never-weres like Jarvis, Naismith and O'Neil will achieve that either.

If we sign more young players like we did with Redmond and Maddison then we can make significant profits down the line. This model has worked very well indeed for Southamton; we should be trying to emulate them.

ILD, what you see as negative, I see as realistic, as RBF and GM have said repeatedly, we can only significantly improve our squad when we are actually in the PL. The only other way is a very risky looking at a L1 or L2 player and hope he reaches the potential he has shown!

I realise that our paths haven't crossed for a few years, but our "older" players have now all been released or are in the process of being shown the door. We succeeded in attaining mid table mediocrity last season and it looks like another season of consolidation next season........

Next season could be interesting seeing how Newcastle & Villa cope with life in Championship, at least Norwich have recent experience of the division so really expect you to be challenging along with big spending Derby, unless their chairman comes out and states that promotion isn't their target again, daftest statement of last season by a country mile........

Whatever happens, welcome back to the real world, away from image rights arguments and ludicrous amounts of money paid to mercenaries.....

I agree RM2 - let's hope AN will at least see how the youngsters perform in pre season. I'm sure one of them will be an upgrade on Naismith!!!! Looks like he was to us as Fellaini was to ManUre.
