With Rhodes it's a question of how you play him.

He will score goals, if played in the right way but offers virtually nothing else in terms of working for the team. AN seems to not like these types of players.

How would you fit him in? 4-4-2 at home with Jerome? then give a bit of control away in midfield? I don't think he will work as a one up front.

Would almost certainly need to be 2 up front with CJ or AN Other. If he becomes an out & out scorer I will accept him offering no more than being a goal threat. CJ will work his nuts off so i think it could work.

 

I read an article, can't remember where now. About "for people who think Rhodes can't play on his own up front" type story. Basically said about how it took him a lot of time, but he eventually got there. So who knows.

He's not in the same role as Jerome, he is purely to get goals. Poach, sit on the last mans shoulder, Convert any half chances. I think he'd either be with a 2 up front, or off the bench when we need a goal or 2. He's not the complete answer, but I thought we needed 2 strikers anyway. We need another like Jerome or Mbokani, and someone different as an alternative. Which Rhodes could fill.

 

Weren't we "favourites" to sign McCormack ?

I don't see how he'd fit in with AN's preferred system of 4-2-3-1.
By playing two together up front, Wes or someone else would have to be sacrificed and sadly, largely due to the high cost of securing him, I can't see it being Naismith who makes way?

Rhodes is in the same mould as Gary Hooper but when you sell all your other strikers and are desperate to recruit you have to scrape the barrel then get put over it with the price.
Can see Boro holding out for £11m us offering 7 then get told he will almost certainly join in January.

It's a fact that on the Skybet website we were favorites with Wolves second.

 

It is a fact that more money has been laid on City getting him by punters than on Wolves doing so. Bookies odds are meaningless in this context.

 

It was just a transfer story I quoted on the transfer talk thread. I haven't said it means it's going to happen.
