Apparently Benitez is getting a warchest of either £50m or £100m, depending on which rag you read. So, which is it?
I thought this was one of those Nigerian threads requesting money to be transferred to a Bank Account.
If you contact my Nigerian Uncle in response to his e-mail with your Bank Account details then he’ll send you the money that’s been left to you in your distant relations Will.
He will be told he is getting 100million but once he signs it will turn out that this is over 5years, is made up of half cash and half shares in Debenhams at their pre-collapse price, and must cover all playing and non-playing personnel costs and any tax assessment due based on the investigation by HMRC.
He's getting basically nothing. Everyone knows it, Ashley is not going to change. Whatever the figure is, it'll be in the bottom 5 of all teams in the league and we will keep our wage bill near the bottom too. I'll probably never of heard of any of the ones we get but so long as it's Rafa at the helm we'll be ok.
Realistically you need 50 mill net to maybe get slightly better. 100 + significant investment in infastructure to challenge for European places. And you have to make sure it's spent well. Seen prem teams spunk too much money on players who just are not worth it over the last few years.
Maybe spend 50m but some if that will be generated by sales. Mike will be looking to do deals with West Brom involving Murphy and Gayle which mean he still won’t have really purchased someone over 24 even though we end up with Rondon. Rafa clearly wants to sign a few quality blue chip brigades. Maybe 25-28 year olds to add the genuine class and quality a side needs. His comments suggest he will only spend that on 24 and under. So Rafa never gets a 27 yr old peak player because by time they are good enough they will be sold. Just confirms what we all knew, football is secondary to business. While it remains like that you won’t attract top players, managers or progress. You need to build a squad and balance it with youth, experience and peak players. Not complicated at all.
And then there's the wages on top, is the £50m/£100m inclusive of the wages, or just the transfer fees? We have similar owners, though at least Ashley only sold a bit of land, rather than the whole ****ing stadium. We've had plenty of promises made and broken since they took over, usually around SYT renewal time ( though to be fair, they did splash the cash a little bit last window) it's the same old spiel, big names mentioned followed by cheapies. We got lucky with Payet, but the next window, when we were pushing for CL football and needed a little strengthening, we got nothing. That was followed by 2 more windows when we bought absolute dog-**** like Zaza, Feghouli & Tore. We also have Sullvan as chairman who thinks he can 'spot a player' and tends to do his own thing in the market, so we're never sure who to blame for the ****.
I love how the fans call your chairmen the dildo brothers. Class that. Respect to your fan base though for forcing them to spend in the end.
