Transfer Day Letdown

Discussion in 'Celtic' started by The Raging Oxter, Sep 1, 2011.

  1. I am glad that we kept Kayal, Izzy and Hooper and K Wilson looks like a right good buy but...

Doesn't mean that watching Stoke (avg att 27,000) buy players of the calibre they got when we couldn't afford one of Crouch's pubes isn't depressing.

I know we shouldn't try to compare our league the EPL but it's still annoying and it's getting more surreal each year.

Batman "do not worry robin, in my utility belt is a shiney coin left by Walter the butler, I can distract the Jhoker long enough for him to forget about the transfer window and make no significant purchases"......"now its just below the centre of my belt and as your hands are tied...use your tongue"

    FROM THE BBC WEBSITE
"Rangers say they have rejected a £9m offer from an unnamed club for striker Nikica Jelavic after warding off an earlier approach from Leicester City"
"But a Rangers source claims that they have since received a call from an agent offering substantially more but refused to name the interested club."

YOU REALLY HAVE TO LAUGH AT THAT " a Rangers source". WHAT, NO ONE FROM THE CLUB TO MAKE THIS STATEMENT. NO DOUBT IT WAS THEIR PR COMPANY, AND THEY MUST THINK THE RANGERS FANS ARE THAT THICK THEY WILL BELIEVE THE STATEMENT. YOU ALSO HAVE TO LAUGH AT " refused to name the interested club" WHAT A JOKE OF A STATEMENT, IT'S ALL MADE UP.

THEIR PR COMPANY, AND WHYTE, TALK UP "the warchest" BUT THIS ARTICLE ENDS WITH " Meanwhile, reports in Africa claimed the Ibrox club had a £100,000 offer for South Africa midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala rejected by Kaizer Chiefs"

    £100,000! YOU HAVE TO LAUGH!

We kept our best players despite lots of reported interest, got in a leftback who is no risk - we have Mulgrew, Wilson, Ledley who can all play in that position if this guy is ****. We went in for Bridge, Ilunga but got knocked back so had to get someone in.

The day before we got in a different kind of striker, someone with with speed. This was just as important as getting a target man for me.

The club tried to offload Samaras so we could bring in another striker but nobody would take him. We got rid of Maloney, Hoovield on top of those already moved on.

I'm not too disheartened to be honest, we got a new forward to replace Maloney and we got a Temp LB to cover Izzy's absence, I would have liked to have seen a new CB but we can't always get what we want.

If the new players are half decent then hopefully we'll not remember what we actually think we needed.

This trasnfer window wasn't all bad...

We defo needed a new CB - hope Rogne comes back and stays fit! What about Thompson - where is he?

The Striker looks good on youtube, hopefully he scores early on in his Celtic career!

The LB is another option , and who knows, may turn out to be good competition for Izzy!

If only Sammy was to have GTFd, it woudl have been a great day!

    Exactly <ok>

We had Stokes & Hooper who are not able to win the ball in the air or have the pace to get beyond the oppositions defence meaning we are in some cases abit restricted to what we can do.

Getting the one striker in means we now have the pace which gives us a new option - if Samaras had gone as it appears we tried to do we would have got the guy in to offer us a bit of an aerial threat.

Getting rid of Hoovield meant I was half hoping for a new centreback, but the leftback coming in means we have the option of Mulgrew playing in the middle- though Jelavic mauled him last year and I can see other teams lumping the long ball & targetting his weakness in the air.

    Why all the depression
I think we had a brilliant close to the transfer window.
We had the money-bags grabbers looking at some of
our young stars and hoping to lure them for a fraction
of EPL transfer fees. We lost none that we coveted and we
got two in at the end. I am well pleased. Many posters have
went on about a tall striker or target man. Our experience is that
these tall men don't work for us, killen Murphy and some might say Sameras.

That striker we signed from Sweden is 6 foot 1" and apparently a bit of a bully in the box, I think we're ok up there with Stokes and Hooper.

Still needed a center back, but I'm in no way worried about what Rangers have done, it was a miracle they managed to cope last season with such a small squad and they haven't made it any bigger this season (which is why I find them sending players out on loan so bizarre).

  10. I know we did what we needed to do but you can't say that you didn't watch the deadline stuff last night and totally despaired at the money teams like Stoke and QPR can throw around.

It can't continue forever like this (revenue-wise) or, in a few years, we'll be missing out on players because they're holding out for a big money deal at Adams Park (Wycombe) or some other home county identa-stadium.

At least, I hope it can't go on forever

I think that's got more to do with Killen and Murphy's lack of ability rather than the not needing a target man, I like the Mathews lad his balls in are great but without a player that feeds those type of balls he's usless.
