We'll have signed a baguette as a replacement for Shola who is on his way to Liverpool in a 50 million pound deal

Mark Douglas' article is now online - http://www.journallive.co.uk/nufc/n...alks-with-tranquillo-barnetta-61634-29174405/

What I don't get is how it says we're in negotiations with Barnetta, but haven't yet agreed a fee with Leverkusen? Surely you have to agree a deal with the club before you talk to the player? Not heard of granting access to a player before there's a deal in place for the transfer itself.

I believe the club can ask for permission to talk to the player before any fee is agreed.

Other point from the article, I really wouldnt want Rob Green, just keep the 3 keepers we have

Definitely don't want Rob Green! Barnetta would be a decent signing though, haven't had a Swiss player since Marc Hottiger I don't think.

Got a feeling Ashley may actually spend some money soon to boost the squad and to pacify fans.

I for one think that barnetta will very much be suited to the system it appears that we're gonna be running with this season. he's fast, got a bags of skill and plenty end product.

I'm still baffled as to who is realistically left to go for as a striker. Personally i think we should dive in and take a punt on teteh bangura. he could end up being an absolute steal. if we made a strong bid for him they might snap our hands off rather than trying with a pissy little bid and alerting bigger clubs that he could potentially be on the move. i know the level hes playing at isn't exactly PL but hes certainly got the eye for goal. in my opinion the kind that is tranferable to anywhere. you either have it or you don't.

Remember that free kick at Blackburn? Absolute fizzer. I liked Hottiger. I'd be surprised to see us do much on the transfer front. I don't buy all this Barnetta stuff if I'm honest. It just smacks of a journo reacting to the news about Barton, looking who we've been linked with, and formulating a believeable story. Its been the same with the strikers and soon with the left back. I await the big Wayne Bridge exclusive.

I think they are happy to go in as we are. Surely they'd have shipped out a striker if we were getting one. We've have 8 months to find one so I don't imagine they are waiting until we've actually signed someone. I thought Lovenkrands would have been moved and Ranger. (I think they have tried to offload him but there has been no official line from the club, I'd prefer they kept him anyway). They've also known for sometime that Enrique was leaving as Pardew has moreorless admitted as much in interviews. So again you'd have set deadlines and shipped him out, got a new one in and got him to be part of the squad in pre season. Same with Barton they've known they wanted rid for a while so they would have quickened that process too. I think they invested in the youth squad and intend to utilise it.

You never know though because Pardew has kept claiming no one is doing much business and it'll all kick off soon and in the run up to the window closing. Maybe they have deals lined up but are waiting on other clubs. I think it unlikely for the above reasons but while the window is open who knows.

Rob Green would be the most pointless signing in the club's history.
