Im not religious but if we took that view on all aspects of life then the world would end in 1 day. We have to respect peoples beliefs even if we dont believe in them ourselves.

News coming out is that it was actually put in Etherington's Locker and he put it in what he thought was Whelan's that turned out to be Jones's.

Whether this is spin from the club because of the Muslim thing I don't know. Lot's of media now running this story!

This appears to be another example of football thinking it is a separate entity to the real world.
Stoke City is a place of work just like any other business in the city.
Would any of you go to work and stick a pigs head in someone's locker (abattoirs and butchers excluded :emoticon-0116-evilg) or cover someone's car in egg and flour, or head butt someone in the showers, or smash a car window.
I sincerely doubt it. There is a huge place for banter at work but some of this is completely over the top and actually criminal.
Sunday is worth potentially £5 million if we win compared to losing. We chucked a number of millions away last year and the year before towards the end of the season. Add them all up and the £14m debt would have been wiped out.
This is my and your football club and the bunch of idiots have spread us all over the news and brought us into disrepute. Clowns <grr>

    Agree with you 100% Northern.
I am not a 'holier than thou' man, nor particularly religious. But this sort of behaviour is simply unacceptable in ANY workplace.

Who the perpetrator(s) was/were should be kicked out of the club, in disgrace.

And arrested for inciting religious hatred, yes, I feel that strongly about it.

Look how far we have come.

Jones is a Rastafarian, apparently. Not sure if that makes any difference, to be honest.
Stupid prank, but I think that whoever played it is slightly more entitled to claim ignorance of how offensive he was being.

It is NOT a prank and it is not remotely funny.
Whoever did it has a serious problem.

"First off for all the people saying thIs had anything to with racism I'm not endorsing that. Secondly i've apologised to glen whelan for the destruction of his property, for all the ppl that think I did micheal Owen's car I didn't. I just posted the pics of it , I was never involved in any of the pranks in the dressing room. So for all the people that think that the pigs head wrapped in my clothes was banter great so is the broken window. As far as tension in the squad there's nun myself and whelan had our thrash out and he said it wasnt him so I apologised n im paying for it. As for the person who did it no one has come fwd n apologised to me so I guess the joke was gd then. But as I said if you have the belly to take banter to that level be willing to accept the reaction. Thats final no more comments"

Seems Jones took it well after he initial outburst. Never realised he was Muslim, was sure I'd seen him signing himself with the cross. Must have been mistaken. As far as whether this is banter or not, it's all about context nd knowing what you can get away with, for example, (I can't use religion as one, me and all my mates are atheists) I've got a few black friends, but I'd get battered if I said some of the stuff I say to them to them if I said it in public, but within the group it's all a good laugh.

Kenwyne Jones has apologised to his Stoke team-mate Glenn Whelan after smashing his car windscreen in a mistaken act of retribution for a training-ground prank which went wrong.

Jones took to Twitter on Saturday to clarify the circumstances of an incident that has led to Stoke opening an investigation. Jones revealed he had spoken to team-mates on Saturday, including Whelan, after he found a pig's head wrapped in his clothes at the club's Clayton Wood training ground.

The 28-year-old reacted by smashing Whelan's windscreen, but apologised and offered to pay for the damage after the Republic of Ireland international claimed he was not involved in the prank. Stoke are yet to make a statement as to whether any player will be punished for the incidents, which came before their final game at Southampton on Sunday, with Jones claiming the culprit was still to come forward.

Jones suggested he and Whelan had now moved on from the matter, denying also that the incident was racially motivated. Addressing the issue on his Twitter page, Jones wrote: "First off for all the people saying this had anything to with racism I'm not endorsing that. Secondly i've apologised to glen Whelan for the destruction of his property.

"For all the people that think that the pigs head wrapped in my clothes was banter great so is the broken window. As far as tension in the squad there's nun myself and whelan had our thrash out and he said it wasnt him so I apologised n im paying for it.

"As for the person who did it no one has come fwd n apologised to me so I guess the joke was gd then. But as I said if you have the belly to take banter to that level be willing to accept the reaction. Thats final no more comments."

The Stoke midfielder Brek Shea yesterday tweeted a picture of himself with the pig's head with the words "locker room banter gone wild".The incident came just days after retiring striker Michael Owen had his car covered in eggs and flour by team-mates.

Jones was also involved on that occasion, tweeting a picture of Owen's car to his followers with the explanation that it was a "leaving present" for the former England star.

"For all the ppl that think I did micheal Owen's car I didn't," Jones wrote tonight.

"I just posted the pics of it, I was never involved in any of the pranks in the dressing room."

Stoke opened an investigation into the matter on Saturday.

"The club takes seriously reports of an incident at our training ground this afternoon," the club said in a statement.

"A full internal investigation will be carried out and those responsible for any unacceptable behaviour will be dealt with in accordance with the club's disciplinary procedures."
